Top 10 Worst Action Movies of the Decade 2000 - 2009

Larry Gonzalez
When you ask someone, "What's the worst action movie of the 2000 decade?" I'm sure the answers will vary in so many different ways. Some will base their answer on the amount of money a movie made or which actor was in it. Others will rate a movie on how it made them feel and that's how I rate my movies. Because we all have different tastes you may not like my choices but that's just fine with me. You see, I'm one of those who really did like Waterworld.

2000 arrived with an excellent example of how remakes are not always a good idea. Shaft starring Samuel L. Jackson as John Shaft, a detective who's been assigned to a racially motivated murder case is after Christian Bale son of a New York tycoon, who's fled the country rather than face justice for the crime. A witness who fails to testify is being sought after by Walter's henchmen but has enlisted the help of Shaft for protection. This movie didn't work for me because Shaft frequently goes around the law and never suffers the consquences. Vanessa Williams, Toni Collette and Jeffrey Wright also star.

2001 showed us again that sequels can fall short from the original. Such is the case with Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal starring Rutger Hauer, Joe Montegna, Craig Sheffer and Gabriella Anwar. Unlike Turbulence with Ray Liotta this movie lacks everything that made the original great. A rock star has decided to retire and give one last performance on a Jumbo Jet. Why? Because if they would have placed it anywhere else they would have had to call it something else. Then a crazed fan decides to hijack the plane.

2002 brought out the skates of 1975 when Rollerball hit the theaters. The only thing this movie changes from the original is that it focuses on the barbaric sport instead of the corruption within it. L.L Cool J stars as Chris Klein the top-rated athlete who realizes that the owner is creating bloody accidents on the court to boost ratings. This movie worked back in 1975 due to the popularity of skating. In 2002 this movie and its sport was so out of place.

2003 tried to join a failing actor with a rapper. In Cradle 2 the Grave Jet Li plays Su, an agent from Taiwan who has a debt to pay. DMX plays Tony Fait, a thief who scores big on black diamonds. Then we have an ex-detective turned criminal (Mark Dacascos) who kidnaps Su's daughter for money. This movie creates so many subplots that it becomes confusing and boring to the point of nausea.

2004 made me want to go out and buy some kitty litter with the release of Catwoman. Starring Halle Berry as Patience Philips who uncovers a corporate conspiracy that gets her killed. She later rises from the dead with the help of a mysterious cat. Embodied with feline like power she sets out to get revenge and becomes a thief herself. In comes Ben Bratt as Tom Lone who becomes Philip's love interest/persuer. The acting alone is enough to make you want to scratch your eyes out.

2005's XXX: State of the Union was more like three strikes. Starring Samuel L. Jackson as the NSA recruiter who finds people with special talents for special assignments. In this installment Ice Cube plays Darius Stone and replaces Vin Diesel as XXX who must uncover a plot against the United States. Willem Dafoe is secretary of defense George Deckert who has specially trained soldiers ready to carry out a coup. This is another one of those movies that tries to mix rappers and actors but misses its mark completely.

2006 went undercover and should have stayed there with the release of Miami Vice. Another remake that shouldn't have been made. Jamie Fox and Colin Farrell star as Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett respectively who are detectives that work in Florida. Following a tired recipe they try to nab a local drug lord as Crockett works close to crossing the line. Nothing new could be made with this story. Somebody should read this movie its rights.

2007 tried to resuscitate Jean-Claude Van Damme's career with Until Death which flat-lined upon release. J-C plays a detective who reawakens from a coma to seek revenge upon those who put him to sleep and took his wife. Anthony Stowe (J-C) is addicted to heroin, his wife is having another man's baby and his career as a detective is coming to an end. Why would he want to come back from a coma? This movie has a ridiculous plot that no one not even Van Damme's high-flying kicks could save.

2008 movie goers are punished severly by The Punisher: War Zone. This time around The Punisher sets his sights on Jigsaw played by Dominic West with laughable results. This movie is about some villain who wants something that he shouldn't have. Then the hero sets out to stop him and blah, blah, blah. I can't go on. I wish I could say I was in a full body cast and couldn't reach the remote because I'm literally ashamed to say I saw this movie of my own free will.

2009 watched another comic book come to life with Watchmen. Stopped by the government to use their powers these superheroes are forced to break the rules when one of their number is murdered. Looking for answers they regroup to find the culprit but are shocked to find one of their own behind it all. If I had read the comic book I would have never bothered watching this movie and I surely would not have seen this movie with my preteen children. This movie is not for kids.
