Top 10 New Year's Resolutions for 2010

We're All in the Same Boat and I'm Betting Our Resolutions Reflect That

Rob Korczak
When I decided to write a top 10 list about New Year's Resolutions for 2010 I first thought I would do some research and try to figure out what Americans were going to Resolve to do in the upcoming year but upon thinking about it I thought I would intermingle my own resolutions with those I thought that most people would also have on their list.

The purpose of doing this list as described above is to make a point that these days we are all pretty much in the same boat and that recent problems that our country is experiencing are hitting all of use in similar ways. For the first time in a long time we truly are in very much the same boat. At least that's my opinion.

So, lets jump right into this top ten list.

10. Stop smoking, this is my number ten resolution because I pretty much make this resolution every year. I'm certain that there are plenty of Americans who make this same resolution every year as well.

9. Be nicer to other people and don't lose my temper so easily. In other words be more patient.

8. Although I don't drink I'm certain that many people out there do and they are going to resolve to quit drinking. To these people I wish you all the luck in the world and I commend you for your decision.

7. Keeping in spirit with number eight is people who's New Years Resolution is to get help or simply quit taking recreational drugs. Once again, I really commend you on your decision and offer the following advice. Please don't be afraid to ask for help with this, there are plenty of places that will help you accomplish your goal.

6. Spend more time with the family. This is a resolution that definitely applies to me as I'm always working or obsessing about work and the people that suffer most are also the ones that miss me the most. So I resolve to spend more time with my family and not be so obsessed with work.

5. Read more books. I resolve to read more books in 2010 and I don't mean electronic books that I read with the help of my computer or some other digital device. No, I'm talking about good old fashioned paper books, or "A-books" if your prefer. The "A" stands for analog.

4. Expand my horizons by learning something new and maybe even taking up a hobby that doesn't involve using a computer. The idea here is to find something that relaxes me and in the process learning something new.

3. Organize my life so my time is spent more efficiently. I, much like many Americans, am very disorganized and I spend a lot of time searching for papers through the piles of files on my desk. If I organize my paperwork and my office space I will be more efficient and will have more time with my family as I will finish project quicker.

2. Go on a diet/lose weight. I know I'm not the only one that is making this resolution. America's waistline is constantly expanding and this is happening at an accelerated pace. This is possibly worse for your health than smoking and losing weight will make me feel better as I'm sure it will make you feel better to.

1. Get out of debt and handle my money better. Like millions of Americans I'm carrying quite a bit of debt. Much of it is on credit cards, which apparently is the worst kind of debt to have as the interest rate is absolutely terrible. The way the economy is these days, getting out of debt is more important than ever because freeing up line of credit can save me and my family should I lose my job.

Well, that's the Top Ten list for 2010 and I'm willing to bet that this list is pretty representative of a very large cross section of Americans.

I wish everyone much luck with their resolutions, whatever they may be and I hope that 2010 treats us all better than 2009 did.

Happy New Years.
