1.Weight loss-With the obesity crisis in America gaining massive attention with the number of people showing up with problems due to excessive weight. Losing weight means using sensible methods that will not put your health in jeopardy. Healthy weight loss comes with changing behavior, diet, and committing yourself to exercising and living better. Those who are active and not in a sedentary lifestyle are less likely to develop diabetes and heart disease because active lifestyles help keep the weight down and the body fit.
2. Smoking-This rampant problem is something you can't do alone get on a strong support system where you can check out options that your doctor can suggest to you on how to stop smoking. You want to gradually wean yourself off cigarettes because quitting can cause many to start right back up again. Talk to your doctor about options that are healthy for you to be able to stop smoking so you're able to get off cigarettes without relapsing back into use.
3. Read a book-Not enough people read books and spend more time in front of the television and computer and this is a good time to check out a new book. Barnes and Noble or Borders has new books that come out and is the perfect time to go sit down with a cup of coffee and read a new book. Reading is a good way to stimulate the mind and enrich the soul. When children read books they're likely to do better in school because a child's mind functions better when they occupy their time with something positive other than to be parked in front of a television or video game system.
4. Organize your life-This is something many people find themselves having to do a lot of the time and much of it is getting rid of people who are not going to benefit your life. Meaning get rid of 'friends' who are not a productive part of your life. Keep those who actually make the effort to throw an email your way or even calling you periodically to see how you're doing. Friends and family who care about you will call and see how you're doing regardless of situation. Clear the drama out of your life and clean your house of people who you should not bother keeping around if they can't even communicate with you every now and then to see how you're doing.
5. Get out and meet new people-Instead of parking it front of the computer to meet people get out to social events and start meeting people in real time. Part of the problem is that the internet has contributed to the sedentary lifestyles many Americans are engaging in. If there's a social outlet that doesnt revolve around a bar go to something where you can meet some new people. 2010 is no reason for you not to get out and be socialble instead of sitting up in the house staring at the four walls.
6. Enjoy life more-The problem with people today is that many of them are stressed out micromanagers and some people don't know when to sit back and take a moment for themselves. Part of why so many people are in ill health is due to the stress they endure in their everyday life personal and professional. When the opportunity comes for a vacation take time for yourself to regroup and to refocus. Stress should be one thing that nobody should be dealing with in 2010.
7. Help someone or volunteer your time to a cause-Part of the mentality in American society is that we think of ourselves too much and there are people out there less fortunate who can benefit from an act of kindness. It does not take a lot to give a little of your time to a cause that helps someone out. Not enough people volunteer their time and the only time they do it is close to the holidays this should be at other times than just holidays. Consider the homeless and work a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter serving meals. Giving a little of your time will make you feel good that you're helping someone who's less fortunate.
8. Getting out of financial debt-2010 is the year people get their finances in order and not blowing money on frivoulous stuff. Watch every penny you spend and learn a better system of keeping track of where your money is going. Some of you who don't have bank accounts need to get one because many places won't deal with you if you don't have a bank account. If you find yourself having more than a certain number of credit cards get rid of them and limit yourself to no more than 4 and designate the cards to a purpose such as gas, travel, emergency, and food. Pay all your bills on time and try to pay more than the minimum balance to get the bill paid off faster. If you're having problems with your bills consider debt consolidation so you can get your finances back in order. Establish a budget and stick to it because the reason so many people are broke is because they're living beyond their means. 2010 is the year to live within your means and not spending money that you don't have and if you have a checking account consider a savings accout to keep some money handy which can help in cases such as losing your job you can have something to back up on financially.
9. Trying new things-Try something new like going to a restaurant you've never been to before or take in a cultural event of an ethnic group you havent learned about before. A lot of the closed minded behavior comes from lack of exposure and it's time to get out and seeing what's in the world. Expand your mind and your horizons by trying something new.
10. Organize your living space-When your life is cluttered with excessive stuff you're not clear in the mind. This should be something that many hoarders should take light to. If you got a house full of things that you should be getting rid of instead of keeping it around for it to pile up and further making your living space crowded. Keep your space clean and get rid of excessive junk.
The new year should be about making real changes and to also be honest with yourself about the changes. Don't make resolutions you don't intend to keep because that can make people think you're not serious about changing parts of your life. The new year is about making a fresh start and turning over a new leaf by changing bad habits and establishing good habits that will help you down the line. The changes should be across the board from personal to financial. Start the new year off right by giving yourself a fresh start and getting a clean slate in life, love, work, and finances. Make 2010 your new year of positive change and bigger and better things.
