Top 10 New Year's Resolutions for Work-At-Home Moms

Marilyn Quinn
The suggested top ten New Year's resolutions for work-at-home-moms (WAHM) this year are all about promotion, professionalism and business-building. Most of the credit for these should go to my wonderful mentors and accountability partners who keep me on track with my own home based business!

10 NETWORK Talk to everyone you know and meet. You never know when you will come across someone who needs your service or product, or knows someone who does. By the same token, you will be looking for opportunities to help out others with their business also. I am a big believer in: you reap what you sow.

9 ADVERTISE YOURSELF A lot of women don't want to toot their own horns or come over as pushy. Imagine if the top companies didn't put ads on television or in newspapers and they just waited for consumers to come running of their own accord. They probably wouldn't be the top and neither will you if you don't get the word out about what you do.

8 SHARE YOUR OPPORTUNITY There is abundance enough for everyone. If you want to have increase, you have to give increase to others. Help them build a business and you will prosper also. Those in multilevel companies know that to grow your business, you have to help a lot of other people succeed; the same is true of everyone. You will have more happy repeat customers if you are offering a mutually beneficial relationship to them.

7 INVEST IN YOURSELF Moms always seem to put themselves last and that is no place to be if you are trying to have a successful home business. You are still in business regardless and you should get professionally trained. Attend seminars and conventions that increase your skills. Attend networking groups and trainings to constantly build your area of influence and confidence.

6 BE PREPARED Don't leave the house without promotional materials, business cards, brochures, samples, pens and whatever else you need to be effective and efficient at promoting and sharing what you do with others. You never know who you will meet on the most mundane errand or trip to the library or post office.

5 DRESS FOR SUCCESS Just because you have a home based business doesn't mean you should neglect your appearance. Don't leave the house in a ratty old t-shirt and jeans. How will you impress the prospects you meet while you are out? Project the image of success and self-confidence. While working at home should afford a certain level of comfort and freedom; you shouldn't let yourself go if you want to be taken seriously.

4 DO SOMETHING NEW Eventually everyone who works from home will get to a place where they have talked to everyone they know and everyone they know. Where do you expand your contact base from? Join a club, take a class; you have to get where people are at. Take every chance you can to interact with others.

3 BE A SOCIAL BUTTERFLY Some WAHMs don't have to interact and so they lose the skill of communication. Too often work at home means sitting in front of a computer and hitting the keys all day. Even those who have mainly online businesses can benefit from making new acquaintances.

2 PARTNER UP FOR SUCCESS Find another woman with similar ambitions who you can be accountable to and who will make sure you stay on track with your goals. You can offer each other support and each of you will have a greater chance at success.

1 TAKE SOME "ME" TIME We tend to get unbalanced if we put it all into our home and family and then our job is from home so we never get out on our own and do for ourselves. Take time to relax and smell the roses in the coming year!
