Top 1000 Content Producers: What Does the AC Community Thinks About It?

R. Bourne, Ph.D.
Recently, the People Media Awards were announced at AC. Congratulations to all the winners and especially to Pam Gaulin, top winner.

As stated by News Team in Associated Content Reveals 2007 People's Media Awards (the original announcement): "Associated Content awarded a total of $10,000 in prize money across a variety of categories, including content quality and page-view performance. All Content Producers who published articles, video or audio content through Associated Content during 2007 were eligible to win."

Interestingly, AC decided to honor the Top 1000 Content Producers for 2007. I was honoured by receiving a badge in my Profile that distinguish me as one of the Top 1000 producers.

As I expected, articles started to pop up about this Top 1000 Content Producer honor badge.

In the Forum many commented that they were receiving the badge in their profile and then after a while the badge was gone so they were not sure if they received it or not. It seemed, according to the comments in the Forum, one of the glitch that form time to time occur within the AC website.

In one of the articles On Becoming an Associated Content Top 1000 Producer, Content Producer Saba,Ink , has written about what AC means to her and how happy is she about receiving the honor.

Also, Content Producer Gail Washington wrote in Top 1000 Performer. Really? How surprised he was to receive such an honor. He seems to usually contribute to AC after working 14 hours a day.

Kim Linton challenged the Ac community in her article The AC Top 1000 - What Criteria is Used to Determine the Winners? To decipher the mystery that surrounds the determination of the Top 1000 Content Producer List. In her excellent article she ventures her opinion on how this list was built.

Although she mentioned that the original AC explanation (AC Top 1000 Content Producers will be determined by total content views generated in 2007) she does not fully agree. In fact, if you look around a little bit in Ac you will find Content Producers who have very good page views and clout ratings and who did not receive the award.

She challenges the AC community to think what could have been the criteria. She gives some possibilities there: Was it the Number of articles published?

Was it the Topic choices? Was it the Number of page views (obviously)? Or was it the frequency that articles are published?

As expected this of article is receiving a lot of comments and hopefully a lot of page views for Kim Linton articles. Nice strategy Kim!

I am really at a loss to explain the Top 1000 award. An acquaintance of mine has less than a dozen articles, a clout of 7, and hasn't written any new articles for more than 6 months and she received the badge. Hmmm.

If you're interested, I've conducted a broad survey to determine what criteria was used to select the top 1000. I've found the answer and published the results here:
