Top 12 Rainiest Cities in the United States

BS
Most Americans will tell you that they love the rain while others will tell you that they absolutely hate it. Those who don't mind when it rains, but also don't miss the rain when it's not there are not quite as common as people who have a definite emotion concerning rain. Many may have recognized a pattern when it comes to rain; people who live where it is constantly raining, are not quite as fond of it as people who live in very dry areas. If you are one of those people who lives in a city that does not receive a lot of rain on a yearly basis and are looking for a new place to live (one that includes rain), try some of these cities:

Indianapolis

Indianapolis is listed as the city with the twelfth most rainfall in the United States. This very wet city is located in Indiana and receives and average of 41 inches of rain every year.

Baltimore

The eleventh city on the list of rainiest cities in the United States can be found in Maryland. Baltimore, Maryland has an average rainfall only slightly higher than that of the twelfth city. Baltimore has an average of 41.9 inches of rain per year.

Philadelphia

Another northern city makes it to the list of the rainiest cities in America. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has the tenth most rainfall in the country. It averages about 42.1 inches of rain on a yearly basis, only a tad more than Baltimore.

Boston

One of the most well known city in the United States is also one of the wettest cities. Boston, Massachusetts receives the ninth most annual rainfall with an average of 42.5 inches every year.

Charlotte

For the number eight spot on the list of rainiest cities in the United States, we go down to the south. Residents of Charlotte, North Carolina see about 43.5 inches each year.

Louisville

Another southern city makes it onto the list of rainiest American cities at number seven. Located in Kentucky, the city of Louisville receives just one more inch than the number eight city. Louisville's average rainfall is 44.5 inches.

Houston

Many people consider Texas to be one of the driest areas in the United States, so it may come as a surprise that one of its major cities is the sixth rainiest city in the country. With just a little over three inches more than Louisville, Houston receives 47.8 inches of rain each year.

Nashville

Another one of the country's most well-known cities makes it on to the list of rainiest cities in America at the number five spot. Nashville, Tennessee receives an average of 48.1 inches of rain per year.

New York

New York, New York takes the number four spot on the list of rainiest cities in the United States. Residents of New York will definitely not be surprised to find their city on this list. These residents enjoy (or dread) the 49.7 inches New York receives every year.

Atlanta

Going back to the Southern half of the United States for the number three spot on the list of rainiest American cities. Atlanta, Georgia has an annual rainfall of 50.2 inches each year.

Jacksonville

Another surprising city takes a high spot on the rainiest cities list. Jacksonville, Florida is ranked as the second rainiest city in all of America. Jacksonville receives an average of 52.3 inches of rain on a yearly basis.

Memphis

Another Tennessee makes it on the list of wettest cities, this time at number one. Memphis is the single most rainiest city in the entire country. Memphis residents may be proud of this or would rather pass on the title to another city, but either way it ranked number one. Memphis receives 54.7 inches of rain every year.
