Target the right audience. You can do this by selecting the language and the countries that you want to target. For example, perhaps it would be wise to exclude all countries where English is not understood by a large percentage of the population when your site has been created in English.
Refine your keywords. Use square brackets "[...]" around your keywords. Your ad will only show when the search is for the exact keyword phrase you have included within the brackets. The ad will not show for searches that include other keywords.
Test multiple ads at the same time. Always test two or more ads simultaneously. This is what is known in the print industry as an A/B split test. Using this method, you can find out which one produces the higher click-through ratio. Then replace the weaker performing ad with a new one. In continuing this process in your never-ending quest to get the highest click-through ratio possible, you will learn what works best.
Track the return-on-investment of each ad. Google tracks the click through ratio of each ad, but it doesn't track the conversion ratio. You can use a special tracking link in each ad to track its conversion ratio. You could attach each ad with an affiliate tracking system link. When doing this, make sure each ad produces a return-on-investment.
Include targeted keywords in your ad. Include the targeted keywords in the headline and the description of the ad. Google will highlight searched keywords in bold in the ad. When people scan search results, they look for the keywords they have entered. When the searched keywords are highlighted in bold, they certainly help to catch the user's attention. Ads with searched keywords usually perform better than the ads without.
Sell the benefits. Clearly spell out one or more major benefits in your ad. For example: get healthy, lose weight, live happier, look younger, make more money. When the potential customer is clear about what you are offering, they are likely to respond.
Include attention grabbing words in your ad. Start your headline with an this attention grabber. Examples of attention grabbing words include "Free", "New", or "Sale".
Use words that provoke emotion and incite enthusiasm. These kinds of words are called power words, or call-to-action phrases and create emotion, enthusiasm, and a response. Examples of power words are: free, cheap, limited time offer, fact, learn, at last, free shipping, sale, special offer, tricks, you, tips, enhance, and discover. Examples of call-to-action phrases are: Buy Today ~ Save 50%, Sale Ends Tomorrow, or Download Free Trial Now. Make sure the phrase you use is specific to your business or your ad may be rejected by the search engine.
Sell your USP (Unique Selling Proposition). Spell out what makes your product or service better than the competition's.
Link to relevant landing pages. Since your ad or service is specific, create a landing page for the ad. On this page, include relevant and useful information to convert the customer. Generally, this landing page will almost always convert more visitors than if you simply send them to the home page.
Remove the common words. Words considered common are: "a, an, in, on, it, of", etc. Remove every word that does not absolutely need to be in the ad. This will make every word count.
Deter hunters of freebies. Do this by including the price of the product or service at the end of the ad. This will improve your overall conversion ratio and lower your average acquisition cost. You are not trying to target everybody anyway. You are trying to attract potential customers. Freebie hunters are not likely to become paying customers.
In conclusion, remember that advertising is a never-ending series of tests. Always test your ads and your keywords. This testing will improve your conversion ratio. Successful ads will generate a successful marketing strategy resulting in your success.
