Top 13 Television Theme Songs

TV theme songs stick in our heads. Sometimes we find ourselves singing those tunes. This list is my picks for Top 13 TV Theme Songs. Hearing the theme song of our favorite shows let us know it is time to go sit on the couch and enjoy our favorite shows. Some theme songs even end up on radio and become very popular. I am sure everyone will find some of their favorites on this list. If your favorite isn't on the list leave me a comment with your favorite. Click on each title will take you YouTube and you can listen to each theme song. These are not in order of favorites they are just in alphabetical order.

1) Cheers

Cheers aired from 1982 until 1993. The theme song was Where Everybody Knows Your Name. The song was written by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo. It was sung by Portnoy. Gary Portnoy went back into the studio and he recorded a full length version that went on to make the U.S and British Pop Charts.

2) CSI

CSI airs on CBS and first aired in 2000 as of the date of this article the show is still on the air and is still very popular. The theme song is "Who are You". It was written by Pete Townshend and sung by Roger Daltrey. Both are from the group The Who and the song is the title track of their 1978 album.

3) Family Ties

Family Ties aired on NBC from 1982 until 1989. The theme song Without Us was written by Tom Scott and Jeff Barry and song by Deniece Williams and Johnny Mathis.

4) Friends

Friends aired on NBC from September 1994 until May 2004. The theme song I'll Be There for You was sung by the Rembrandts'. The song became so popular that it ended up being recorded into a full version and is still very popular.

5) Growing Pains

Growing Pains aired on ABC from 1985 until 1992. The theme song was As Long As We've Got Each other, written and composed by Steve Dorff and John Bettis and performed by B.J Thomas.

6) Happy Days 1 and Happy Days 2

Happy Days aired from 1974 until 1984 on ABC. They used two theme songs. The first theme song was Rock Around the Clock by Bill Hailey and His Comets. Seasons 2 thru 10 used the theme song Happy Days written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel and sung by Pratt and McClain and released as a single in 1976 which reached the Top 5.

7) The Dukes of Hazzard

The Dukes of Hazzard aired from 1979 until 1985. The Theme song was "The Good Ol' Boys. The theme song was written and performed by Country music artist Waylon Jennings.

8) The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls aired on NBC from September 1985 until May 1992. The theme song is Thank You for Being a Friend and was a pop hit for Andrew Gold in 1978. The shows version however was a cover version sung by Cindy Fee.

9) The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy aired from November 1981 until May 1986. The theme song was The Unknown Stuntman and was written by Glen Larson, David Sommerville and Gail Jensen and performed by Lee Majors.

10) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air aired from September 1990 until May 1996. The theme song was written and performed by Will Smith who played the character of The Fresh Prince Will Smith. The music was composed by Quincy Jones not DJ Jazzy Jeff as many believe.

11) The Greatest American Hero

The Love Boat Aired on ABC from 1981 until 1983. The theme song Believe It or Not was sung by Joey Scarbury and became a very popular hit during the run of the show. It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 in June of 1981 and ended up at #2 the weeks of August 15th and 22nd and spent a total of 18 weeks on the Top 40.

12) The Love Boat

The Love Boat aired on ABC from September 1977 until May 1986. The theme song was sung by Jack Jones until the last season and was then sung by Dionne Warwick. Paul Williams wrote the lyrics and Charles Fox wrote the music.

13) Who's the Boss

Who's the Boss aired from 1984 until 1992. The theme song was Brand New Life and was written by Blake Hunter and Martin Cohan and the music was composed by Robert Kraft and Larry Carlton. The show used three versions. They were song by Larry Weiss, Jonathon Wolf and Steve Warnier.
