Top 15 Ways to Keep Your Preschool Aged Children from Getting Sick

Kids do some crazy things. They eat food off the floor when you're not looking, lick dirty fingers, share drinks with other kids, and play in the dirt just for fun. You won't be able to stop every germ from entering their little bodies but there are some ways you can minimize risks.

1. Keep sanitizer in your purse/pocket & sanitize every time you get into the car.

2. Don't leave the sanitizer in the car because exposure to temps above 100 F can cause it break down and loses its effectiveness.

3. Wash or wipe down your kids shoes at least once a week. Inside and outside as some kids will take off their shoes, touch their feet, then touch their mouths.

4. Get a good mat for the inside and outside of your front & back doors to keep as much dirt as possible out of your home.

5. Wipe down the shopping cart handle before shopping.

6. Clean the bottom of your purse regularly if you carry one. Its one of the dirtiest things in your home and you never know when your little one will touch it!

7.Teach your child to wash their hands to the count of twenty.

8. Get a fun, nicely scented, foaming soap to help your kids use enough soap.

9. If you notice your child is putting his or her hands in their mouth more than normal when you're out, clean their hands right at that moment. They may be stressed and won't be able to stop for a few minutes, but that could be the moment they get sick.

10. Find a yogurt your kids like to keep their digestive system strong. Its a huge part of their immune system.

11. If your child is sick, don't bring them to a playdate and insist other parents do the same.

12. Keep your child away from doctors offices whenever possible when they aren't sick or aren't getting a check up. Its a great time for grandma to watch them if you or a sibling has an appointment.

13. An apple a day keeps the doctor away isn't just a saying. If possible, have your children have at least one fresh fruit at each meal.

14. Remember that things that are automatic for you may not be for your children. Remind them tirelessly to wash their hands before eating and when they get home and soon they'll be reminding you.

15. Daily vitamins and extra C when they've done something especially gross. You never know what you'll be able to ward off.
