Top 25 Gospel Songs

Maggie OLeary
There are so many great gospel songs out there that I could write a 10-volume anthology, and never be able to cover them all. I have picked out 25 of my favorite gospel songs from the many, many gospel songs contained on my iPod, and have shared them here with you. I hope someone can get a blessing from these special songs.

Perhaps one of my favorite gospel songs is Help Me by Elvis Presley. This song has been a great inspiration to me throughout my entire life, but especially during the time that I was deployed overseas.

Why Me, Lord? and How Great Thou Art by Elvis Presley, with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps on background vocals are two more great gospel songs. These are great songs to listen to when you are feeling down.

When you're feeling happy, or need a great burst of inspiration, Elvis's 1968 Gospel Medley is definitely a great medley to listen to. When I hear this medley, I can't help but tap my feet, sing, and clap my hands. The 1968 Gospel Medley contains four great songs: Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child; Where Could I Go But To The Lord; Up Above My Head; and Saved.

Run Onby Elvis Presley, or the version by Johnny Cash, is also a great gospel song. There Is No God But God, and I've Got a Feeling In My Body are also great up-beat gospel songs, to bring you out of a bad mood, or add to a happy mood.

Another favorite gospel artist of mine, is Gary Bond. You can purchase his music from his website at www.bondministries.com. Some of my favorite gospel songs by Gary Bond are Shout to the Lord, The Midnight Cry, Daystar, and No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus. When I'm in a somber mood, I listen to The Next Time He Comes and Broken and Spilled Out, also by Gary Bond. And my favorite gospel song by Gary Bond, Going Homewas another of my favorite songs to listen to while deployed. It had a dual meaning for me, and helped me look forward to the reunion with my family.God On The Mountain, Where Could I Go, He Brought Me Out, and Master of the Wind are great gospel songs to listen to, when you feel down-trodden and oppressed. Those songs remind me that God is still here, even when I feel completely alone.

In 2005, my friend gave me a CD for Christmas. He said that he was at a music store, and felt like God was telling him that he should buy that CD for me. The CD was Hiding Place by Selah. Some of my favorite songs from that CD are Through It All and There Is Power In The Blood. These are very uplifting gospel songs, and good for any situation.

Two other great gospel songs are Going Homeby the United States Air Force Band, and Just a Closer Walk With Thee by the United States Marine Band. These two instrumental gospel songs are great background music for daily devotions. These are just a few of my favorite gospel songs. Happy listening!
