Top 3 Best Portable External Hard Drives

Eileen Thai
As prices drop and capacity increases, flash memory is becoming highly popular as the preferred device to transfer and even back up your computer files. But it still has ways to go before it can replace the hard drives. For now, to backup your precious data, photos, music, videos and movies, portable external hard drives is the best option.

There are many products to choose from, but there is only a handful of disk drive manufacturers - Seagate, Western Digital, Iomega and Toshiba. Selecting the best portable external hard drives among these companies is not that difficult. It boils down to capacity, physical size, and perhaps the most important factor of all, price.

My family and I have bought different portable external hard drives over the last few years, and all of us are happy with our choices. I recently purchased my 1.5TB Seagate FreeAgent Portable External Hard Drive, and am very pleased with the product. Here are my recommendations for the top 3 best portable external hard drives, based on capacity and price (the latter gathered from Amazon.com at the time this article is written). Most provide strong file encryption to protect your content.
