Hands down, Gross' Burgers has the best burgers in the whole city. They make their burgers from freshly ground quality beef everyday! They are famous for their garlic fries! Let me tell you they definitely don't skimp you on the fries. Their hamburgers and cheeseburgers are so delish but the pizza burger really rocks! It is not your typical fast food dive. The food is made to order so sometimes there is a little wait but not long and it is definitely worth a few extra minutes to get hot fresh food! My favorite meal is a pizza burger, fries and a banana milk shake! If you're not in the mood for a milk shake they serve Pepsi products. They have a drive thru window but you must call your order in ahead to pick it up at the drive thru!
Anyone who has ever ate at Gross' Burgers is a fan. It's a super friendly place. People who live in the area are loyal customers and those who have tried it still come back for more...even if they live out of state. Whenever someone from far away visits Danville, most likely a stop at Gross' Burgers is on their list of things to do while they are in town! Anyone can become a fan of Gross' on Facebook!
Another great burger joint is Mike's Grill. It would me my second favorite place to get a delicious burger. Mike's Grill has more of a variety of other foods other than burgers like tenderloins, chicken, grilled cheese, BLT's, salads, etc. It's a nice place to go to when you have other people with you not in the mood for burgers so you can get yourself a great burger but others can pick something else. This is an older style drive in where you have the option of going into the restaurant to dine in or you can pull up in the drive in and eat in your car or get it to go. What is also nice is right next door there is their sister company, Mike's Chill. At the Chill, you can get all kinds of delicious frozen treats! It is located at 2006 Georgetown Road also known as Illinois Route 1. It too is about a 5 minutes detour off of I-74. It is on the right hand side of the road if you are heading south on Georgetown Road/Route 1, right before the stop light at Ross Lane. If you travel on down the road maybe a minute more, you will see Gross' Burgers on the left hand side of the road, right before you come to the Hegeler Lane stop light.
After much deliberation, I have to give the number three spot up to Steak n Shake. It's a darn good steak burger and I love the cheese fries, plus there is a variety of other items on their menu that you could choose from as a side to your yummy steak burger. What closed the deal on making this the third best burger joint in town was that there are two of them; one on each end of town and it never closes! So for us night owls who like to eat late or need a fix after a night out, Steak n Shake is the place to go!
Steak n Shake is a franchise so you are able to find them in most Midwestern states and almost all the Southern states. Here's an interesting fact, Steak n Shake was founded in Normal Illinois which is only a few hours drive from Danville.
I also have two honorable mentions that were in the running for the third spot on my list, The MoonGlo and Schroeder's. The MoonGlo is located at 3124 Perrysville Road and is just a few minutes from the Illinois/Indiana State line. They have a massively big burger known as the moonburger. It is pretty tasty but a little much for some people. Schroeder's is located at 432 N. Gilbert Street and has pretty good burgers. My favorite is the Mushroom and Swiss Burger!
