Top 3 Burger Joints in Liberty, KY

Sammie Brown
Liberty, KY may not have the biggest population, but it certainly knows how to do burgers. There are plenty of people around that come to Liberty to eat and there are numerous places to get a good meal, but nothing beats the burger joints. Here are a few that really take the cake, so to speak, when it comes to a good burger:

Emma's Cafe

While the service here usually leaves much to be desired, the food really is quite awesome. It costs about $4 for a burger and side and at those prices I'm OK with having a waiter who approaches our table texting on his cell phone. At least he did bring everything out promptly and was nice, so it made up for it.

Emma's Cafe is located in the center of town, right across from the courthouse and next to the Gathering Place. The sign for it is really easy to miss, but as long as you can find the courthouse it's directly across the street, just follow the crosswalk.

Besides having pretty decent-sized burgers, Emma's Cafe also has a killer chocolate pie. It's the only kind I eat, but I've heard others say the rest are pretty good, too.

Just a note, though, there is smoking inside of this restaurant. We didn't realize when we went in and there are no signs posted and with me having asthma we probably wouldn't have entered had we known, but the server did light up in the dining room and started smoking, so if you don't want to be around smoke it's probably not a good place to dine.

The Hitching Post Cafe

This is a fairly new restaurant. It's just beside the courthouse in town, almost diagonal from Emma's Cafe. It's a small business and the same people work there all the time, so it's easy to get used to people. Generally they have really good service there, but last time we went it was a bit lacking (we had to sit for 20 minutes before they even took our drink order). Most days it's a great place with a wonderful dinging atmosphere, though.

While the burgers have grown considerably smaller the longer they've been in business, the burgers still taste amazing and at $5 for a burger and a side, you really can't beat it. It's $1 extra if you want a deluxe burger, which is really worth it. Plus, the sides are just great. They have a really killer macaroni salad that I can't help but order every time I'm in there.

Marathon

I know you're probably thinking isn't this a gas station? Yes, it most definitely is. But up on 70 out on the corner of Highway 206 is a Marathon gas station that has a little dining area set up in it and it sells really good burgers and pizza. The hamburgers are huge. I don't think I've gotten a bigger burger from a restaurant before. It's $3 and change for a burger and sides are about $1.50 each, but you don't have to buy sides you can just get the burger. It usually only takes them about 5 minutes to cook it and you'll be on your way or you can just eat there. The people are really friendly, too. It's definitely not what you'd expect from a gas station, but the burgers are really good just the same.

I personally think you should give breeden and Withers a try their monster burger is the best and it is rather big. I am certain it is bigger than any burger you have tried.
