3. Cheeburger Cheeburger on Route 1 (also referred to as US Highway 1). Although this restaurant is a chain, it is not anything like the stuff you will be handed through a drive-thru window! Cheeburger Cheeburger is set up with 50's style décor, complete with a jukebox and chrome barstools, fun neon lights and framed pictures of your favorite 50's celebrities. Cheeburger Cheeburger's greatest claim to fame and perhaps what makes them so great, is their completely customizable burgers and shakes. When you open the menu, you are greeted with the options of 3-4 different sizes of burger patty, several different choices of cheese from American to Pepper-Jack (my personal favorite), at least 20 toppings, and around the same number of sauces and condiments. The best thing about this? There is absolutely no limit to the amount of things you can request for your burger - absolutely none. Do you want 6 toppings? Go for it! 8 different sauces? Knock yourself out. If you decide you want a shake, you are greeted with a list of at least 100 ingredients that you can mix and match for your shake - no limit to the number of ingredients here, either, folks! The servers at this place are friendly and helpful, even when the place is at its busiest.
2. 5 Guys Burgers and Fries on Scotch Road. Now, let me begin by saying that there are not nearly as many choices to make at 5 Guys as there are at Cheeburger Cheeburger, but this can be a load off your mind if you hate making decisions! What 5 Guys lacks in options, it makes up for in taste and atmosphere. I have been to a few different 5 Guys restaurants, and this one was definitely the cleanest and least congested I have seen so far. Their burgers as well as juicy, never dry and always made exactly the way you order them! Never have I, or anyone I've gone in with, had to send a burger back because it wasn't done enough or had the wrong toppings. The wait staff was a little bit slow, but the place is normally quite busy and they are very friendly, which only adds to the warm, eating-at-home feeling the place gives off.
1. Rossi's Bar & Grill on Morris Avenue. Rossi's is absolutely the greatest place for a a burger, especially if you are looking for one without all the fancy bells and whistles that the other places offer. While personally I like the variety of choices that I am offered at 5 Guys and Cheeburger Cheeburger, I cannot deny that Rossi's burger quality is better; juicier, more flavorful and much more "bang" for your dollar. Their wait staff is friendly and definitely more experienced than the younger kids typically found working at the 2 other top restaurants. If you want to grab the best burger in Trenton, head to Rossi's!
