Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki has been the number one car maker of India. The company was established in February 1981 as the Maruti Udyog Limited. The company was renamed Maruti Suzuki India on 17th September 2007.
Maruti Suzuki brought in a revolution in the Indian car industry with the Maruti 800. This car is meant for an average Indian individual. The Maruti 800 is affordable as well as has elegant appeal. The company has crossed the milestone of becoming the first Indian company in March 1994, by manufacturing in totality one million vehicles.
Hyundai Motor India
Hyundai Motor India is the Indian subsidiary of Korean car giant Hyundai Motor Company. It is India's second largest car company and number one exporter of cars.
Hyundai Motor India was founded in 1998. The company success story is based on a profitable Indian- Korean partnership where Indian skills and workmanship combine with Korean design and technology to produce the best cars.
The Santro is Hyundai Motor India's flagship model. The car was recently relaunched with a facelift. The car company has its auto-manufacturing unit at Irrungattukatoi near Chennai. This plant is capable of producing 1,20,000 cars, 1,30,000 engine and transmission systems annually.
According to a company release, the rise in production will help the company increase its export destinations to 95 countries by the end of this year.
Tata Motors
Formerly known as TELCO (TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company), Tata Motors is India's third largest car maker in passenger segment and numero uno in commercial car segement. The company comprises a market share of 31.2% in the multi-utility vehicles segment and 6.4% in the luxury car segment. TELCO was established in year 1945.Tata Motors acquired the British automotive brands Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008.
