3. "Tales of a Third Grade Nothing" Airdate: November 16, 2008 Prod. # 6ACX10
Peter is angling for a promotion at work in order to gain access to the "Executive bathroom" shown in this episode as an "Isla Nublar" style Shangri-La. In order to get the job however, Peter he must first complete third grade. Elsewhere in Quahog, Brian and Frank Sinatra Jr. decide to open up their own club but end up getting Stewie to help run it when nobody shows.
This episode makes the list because it reminds me of the earliest episodes and has a bunch of politically incorrect humor, (especially at the expense of Peter's classmate Omar) and actually funny jokes (not just Manatee gags). Oh and also because we get to see more of Quagmire's illegitimate brood.
2. "Road to Germany" Airdate: October 19, 2008 Prod. # 6ACX08
Mort, Stewie, and Brian travel back through time to 1939 Poland and must find their way back by going deep in the heart of Nazi Germany. This episode features some great CGI animation in the invasion of Poland and the aerial dogfights. The offensive humor is ramped up when Stewie vouches for Mort's authenticity as a priest, as well as the McCain/Palin reference which I thought was just lazy and not all that clever.
This one is in the top three because it serves as a rebuttal to the critics of family guy's animation as sub-par; as well as its incorporation of its pop-culture references into the actual story rather than just lazily tossing in a flashback.
1. "Love Blactually" Airdate: September 28, 2008 Prod. # 6ACX03
In probably the most offensive episode of Family guy this year, we find Brian meeting a woman that shares his interest in Atheism. Following some bad advice from Stewie, Brian ends up competing for her attention with Cleveland "it's rainin' bitches" Brown.
There are plenty of great, laugh-out-loud moments in this episode, right from the very beginning. The Laura Bush reference, the "Freddy Krueger" Halloween costume, and Stewie and Brian's argument of how to pronounce "ruin" get the season off to a great start and the laughs keep on coming.
But really makes this the best Family Guy episode of 2008 are these three simple words. "Boom goes the dynamite"
