As a mother to three kids, I am always on the lookout for restaurants that are family friendly in my hometown of Bakersfield . I prefer taking my children to a restaurant that has no problem with children coming in with their parents. There are several restaurants in Bakersfield that want your families business but there are a few that my family has had better luck at then others. #1: Hometown Buffet

I love taking my kids to a buffet restaurant such as Hometown Buffet because I know that there will be something that they will actually eat amidst all of the choices. Plus I insist that they hit the salad bar (that has several fruit choices) before they load up on other food. After they get the healthy options down, my kids enjoy moving on to other areas of the buffet bar where they sometimes have choices like pizza, chicken and fries. The adults in our group enjoy a nice salad, soup and other meal choices such as fish or beef.

One of the things that I don't like about Hometown Buffet now is that you have to buy your drink in addition to the price of your meal. It used to be that it came with the buffet price. So it will seem like it's a bit cheaper but if you want drinks, it's around the same price. My kids love the option of all you can drink chocolate milk so we pay the extra for the drinks.

Hometown Buffet has lots of seating. They have tables that will hold several people or booths. I personally enjoy sitting in a booth because my kids seem to squirm a lot at a regular table while we are in a restaurant.

My children love ordering breakfast for dinner and they have really cute choices like pancakes with a face on it, etc. A perk for my family is that sometimes they have a kids eat free night which means with a paid adult meal, a child eats for no charge from the children's menu. Denny's has ample seating and you can pick from a table or a booth. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get a really great server and other times you'll get someone who you know cares less if you're happy or not. All in all, it's a decent place to get an affordable meal for your family.

Fred's Barbeque Factory is probably not where most people would take their families but they should. Pop into Fred's on any given day and you'll find a family or two seated inside the restaurant enjoying some good food with their kids.

Fred's is appealing to families for several reasons. One of course being the food as they have heavenly barbeque that appeals to adults and children alike. Kids can pick what kind of sandwich or meat dish they want and then they can sweeten the deal by picking a side like potato salad or even their favorite bag of chips and a drink. Next is that the wall paintings in the restaurant are in fun farm style format that will bring a giggle out of the entire family. You can choose to sit at a regular table with chairs or a tall table with tall chairs. My kids get a kick out of sitting at a table where their feet don't even touch the ground.
