Coffee Shops in Loveland, Colorado Have a Lot to Offer

Karen Zakavec
You might not think of Loveland, Colorado as a place to find a lot of coffee shops, but these three independent coffee shops have a lot to offer. There is something unique about each one of them that makes them a welcome part of the Loveland community.

The Coffee Tree

The Coffee Tree is located at 422 E. 4th St. in downtown Loveland. It is inside the Anthology Book Company. Owners, Heidi and Michael Thrash moved to Loveland in 2005 from Seattle, Washington and opened The Coffee Tree in 2006.

The menu has a wide selection of coffee and espresso based drinks. Beverages for non-coffee drinkers include chai tea, herbal teas, hot chocolate, steamers, Italian soda and fruit smoothies. Food items on the menu include homemade scones, coffee cake, cookies, pumpkin bread and seven layer bars. The menu also offers bagels, biscotti and burritos made by companies in the Northern Colorado area.

Since The Coffee Tree takes up a small space within Anthology Book Company, customers can take their drinks and wander through the book store while sipping the beverage of their choice. They can also get comfy in the chairs and couches throughout the book store or stay in the cozy area of the coffee shop itself.

The Coffee Tree is open Monday - Saturday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is closed on Sunday. Additional information can be found on their website: www.wheregoodthingsgrow.com

Loveland Coffee Company

Loveland Coffee Company is located at 620 E. 29th St. and is owned by Kim and Dean Schatz. They have created a friendly and welcoming atmosphere by being committed to offering excellent customer service.

The menu includes a variety of coffee and espresso drinks made with gourmet coffee beans. Choices for non-coffee drinkers include: herbal teas, steamers, hot chocolate and caramel apple cider. Fruit lovers can order fruit smoothies in many different flavors. Locally made bagels, breads, fresh pastries, muffins, and breakfast burritos are also on the menu.

The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. There are wooden tables and chairs as well as comfy chairs and couches to make your visit enjoyable and relaxing. There is also a fake fireplace which adds to the ambiance.

Customers can purchase gifts items at Loveland Coffee Company. Cards, magnets, and notepads from the Leanin' Tree in Boulder, Colorado as well as a variety of mugs, t-shirts, coasters, and other gift items are available for sale.

Loveland Coffee Company is open daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Additional information can be found on their website: www.lovelandcoffeeco.com

The Mandolin Café

The Mandolin Café is located at 210 E. 4th St. in the heart of downtown Loveland. It opened in September 2009 and is owned by Alex and Aryn Zoll.

Customers will find a full espresso bar at the Mandolin Café with a wide variety of flavor choices. Non-coffee drinkers can enjoy tea, hot chocolate, steamers, malts, shakes, floats and fruit smoothies. Locally purchased pastries, doughnuts, bagels and biscotti are also available.

Since the Mandolin Café is larger than the average coffee shop, the owners chose to expand their menu. It includes breakfast burritos, paninis, sandwiches, soups and salads. Dessert choices round out the menu and feature Boulder Ice Cream. Customers can choose from ice cream by the scoop, sundaes or a hearty banana split.

The laid back atmosphere at the Mandolin Café is very relaxing. Seating includes tables and chairs as well as comfy couches and chairs. Local musicians or comics are featured on most Friday and Saturday nights and occasionally on some week nights. Poetry circles are usually held once a month. The café can seat over 60 people and includes a play area for children.

The Mandolin Café is open Monday - Thursday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Friday from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Sunday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Additional information can be found on their website: www.mandolincafeloveland.com

WoW........ I could not agree less!
Loveland Coffee isn't really a Coffeehouse, it's a coffeeshop that closes in the afternoon! They are closer to a Corporate Coffeeshop than anything. No music no charm just a girly little coffeeshop for the Starbuck lovers.

Coffee Tree is funkier but still not a true indie coffeehouse, no music, no late hours. Just Coffee and a poor refill policy.

The Mandolin is closed, it too lacked the Funk-Factor needed to be a great coffeehouse. At least their refill policy was better.

This is what happens when those who know little about true Coffee Culture open up coffee shops & cafes thinking they are opening a Real CoffeeHaus. If you don't know what people want... ASK SOMEONE who has been around, visit the good places in Denver, Chicago and East & Left Coast!!! Ask Around! Coffeehouses need funk, music and patios. Art and Plants are important. Late hours and Bohemian staff make a Coffeehouse.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, although I like the occasional cappucino, but I sure like a lot of other things on the menu! If I'm ever in town, now I'll know the place to go. :)

    I'd like R.C. ideas!

Great choices -- thanks for sharing! I will keep these in mind for when I am visiting my sister-in-law to be in Fort Collins!

I like the sound of the Coffee Tree and how you can read while you sip. One of my favorite things in life is to get a cup of coffee in downtown Wickford, RI and read whatever book I'm on at the moment, preferably outside.

I sure love coffee :) I lived in Northglenn, CO until I was 9 years old. Loveland sounds familiar to me.

The Mandolin sounds like my kind of place! Hope all is well with you...I am back to work now, too...so I have not been around as much!

I think I'd head for the Loveland Coffee Company and have their caramel apple cider. Any would be nice, though.
