Breweries in Blacksburg and Floyd Virginia

Janie King
The Shooting Creek Brewery located in Floyd, Virginia is a traditional microbrewery that is trying new and innovative ways to get their beer out. They are experimenting with delivery their beer to Blacksburg, VA. The delivery is similar to a produce cooperative where people order produce from a near by farm and it's delivered to a set meeting spot. Fans of Shooting Creek's beers can go online to their website and order the beer and it will be delivered to a set drop off point so that patrons don't have to drive all the way to Floyd to enjoy their products. The Brewery is also on Facebook and fans can become a fan of the brewery and be keep updated on different brew fests and events that the brewery will be attending. The brewery has a large selection of beers ranging from stouts to IPA's to fruity pumpkin ales. Due to having problems getting a serving permit on premises, the brewery currently can not serve the beer on premises so it's important to see what events the brewery will be at so you can try all of their great beers.

Blacksburg Brewing Company- John Bryce, owner of this brewery is an alumnus of Virginia Tech. You can tell that this alumnus is proud of his alma mater when you see the logo of the Blacksburger logo. Maroon and Orange make up the label for this light and refreshing pilsner. Bryce is an active alumnus and supports various Virginia Tech events. The beer currently is not bottled but it can be found on draft at several Blacksburg and Roanoke restaurants. The beer is also available in kegs for your party. The Blacksburger is the only brew that the brewery offers. It's a light pilsner that is drinkable by the "non" beer drinker and the seasoned beer aficionado.

Bull and Bones- This brewhaus restaurant opened in early 2009. This brewery is located at the First & Main shopping center. It isn't just a place to have a beer; it boasts a meeting room, formal dining room and sports bar with championship pool tables and 20 high-definition televisions. The beer is all brewed on site, with only malt, no rice or corn fillers. The beer is non-pasteurized unlike some commercial beers. One of the best features of the Bull and Bones bar is the "ice rail" it's a strip of ice that goes around the bar. It allows patrons to keep their glass on the rail so that it remains cold throughout the "life of drink" every sip or gulp is as ice cold as the first. The brewhaus offers seven beers with a seasonal beer that rotates. In the selection there's a couple of light ales up to a dark stout.
