Here in Western Kentucky we get a lot of travelers passing through, so it is a necessity to have great coffee shops available not only to our residents, but for the travelers too. Murray, KY has some of the best coffee shops, listed below are three of the best Murray has to offer; these are also my personal favorites.
Hungry Bear Restaurant & Coffee Shop
Hungry Bear is located at 1310 Main Street Murray, KY 42071, (270) 753-7641. This little place hits the top of my list for the great tasting coffee they serve here, it is always fresh and hot and the waitress will keep your cup full until you say no more. Hungry Bear is a "greasy spoon" type place, but the food is cooked to perfection, never burnt or over cooked. The prices are just as great as the food tastes, my family of four can eat a full breakfast for less than $20.00 and that is with all of us eating a full breakfast. A basic breakfast of beacon, eggs, hash browns, toast and coffee is $4.25 per person. Hungry Bear is also famous for their pancake roll-ups, they take a pancake and stuff it with blueberry filling, roll it up and serve it with whip cream on top, oh my is it good! Every Sunday I take my family to Hungry Bear for a hearty breakfast before we go golfing.
University Book & Bean
This coffee shop is an independent, full service coffee shop and bookstore and is located at 1203 Chestnut Street Murray, KY 42071, (270) 761-2665. This coffee shop caters to the younger crowd from Murray State University; they carry a comprehensive selection of discounted college textbooks. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, nice to get a cup of cappuccino and curl up in one of their comfy chairs and chill out. The coffee is a little expensive here, but the atmosphere is worth it. Average cost for a cappuccino is $4.55 for a small.
Martha's Restaurant & Coffee Shop
Martha's is located at 1407 North 12th Street Murray, KY 42071, (270) 759-1648 and they serve up a great cup of coffee here. Martha's is an old time restaurant that offers some of the best home cooking in Murray, the prices are great, but the portions could be a little bigger. One of my favorite things to order here is the deep fried pickles, oh my they are so delicious! The service is always friendly and fast with fresh coffee brought to your cup before you can ask for it. For a family of four to eat breakfast here it would cost about $25.00; which is a little higher than Hungry Bear, but the food and service makes up for it, plus the atmosphere at Martha's is so relaxing.
So the next time you happen to be passing through Murray, KY stop buy one of our country coffee shops and have a good old breakfast and some great tasting coffee.
