Top 3 Places to Take a First Date in Sullivan, Illinois

Recreation, Culture & Dining for a Romantic First Date

Tamara McRill
Choosing where to go on your first date is a crucial decision. If your first date is in Sullivan, Illinois, then there are three excellent options for a budding romance. All three places work for daytime and evening first dates.

Wyman Park
North Worth Street
Sullivan, IL

Wyman Park is an optimum choice for a fun and interactive first date. Sullivan's park provides facilities for many sporting activities, like tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, fishing and Frisbee golf. Doing an activity for a first date will help you bond and keep conversational pressure to a minimum. Sports courts are lighted at night.

For a more romantic first date at Wyman Park, take a stroll through the grounds and have a picnic. Enjoy your meal on Wyman Lake's pier. The pier overlooks the lake fountain, which is lit at night. Slip off your shoes and dip your toes into the water as you get to know one another.

Admission to Wyman Park is free tot he public. You will have to provide your own sporting equipment and food.

The Little Theatre on the Square
16 E. Harrison Street
Sullivan, IL
(217)728-7375

The Little Theatre on the Square has been the backbone of Sullivan's cultural scene since 1957. In 2005, the Little Theatre was named as one off the "Top 10 Places to See the Lights Way Off Broadway" by USA Today. More important to your dating success is the theater's romantic dim lighting and intimate ambiance. The performance will also provide nice conversational fodder, so you don't have to scramble for something to talk about.

The Little Theatre on the Square has evening and matinee shows, allowing some flexibility when planning your date. Expect to pay $70 to $80 for two tickets. Order tickets in advance, as some performances do sell out.

Doug Wilson's Jibby's
19 N. Main Street
Sullivan, IL
(217)728-7112

Owned by designer Douglas Wilson, of Trading Spaces and Moving Up fame, Doug Wilson's Jibby's is the best of big city dining meets small town service. The blue and white professionally designed interior makes this restaurant a classy, yet romantic place to take a first date. There are booths available for more intimate dining.

Menu items are under $30, with many options under $15. Dinner and drinks for two are often under $100. If your date is not big on eating meat, I recommend the delicious portabella mushroom wrap, which comes with a refreshing vinaigrette.

Due to Doug Wilson's Jibby's popularity and close location to the Little Theatre, reservations should be made for dinner. Otherwise you and your date may have to wait for a table.
