Top 3 Scenic Drives in Virginia for Viewing Fall Foliage

Rebecca Bardelli

While in Virginia there are three scenic drives you don't want to miss. The leaves in Virginia change from green to pumpkin, pomegranate, and gold every fall. All three drives offer awe-inspiring views of fascinating and fantastic fall foliage.

Colonial Parkway in Williamsburg

My family and I take Route 10 through Smithfield and Surrey County when we want to view breathtaking fall foliage. We drive onto the Jamestown Scottland Ferry and end at the Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg. From there we head to Colonial Parkway to enjoy a slow-paced, picturesque drive. As we drive along the gravel road, we gaze upon trees bejeweled with multicolored leaves and marvel at wondrous views of the James River.

Skyline Drive

Skyline Drive offers a 105-mile scenic drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. The array of colored leaves drape themselves atop the trees every autumn before falling to the ground. With more than 75 overlooks there will be plenty of opportunities to park, relax, take pictures, and have a picnic.

Rosedale Scenic Drive

Head to Rosedale. For a 60-mile scenic drive through woods and mountains. This drive goes through the Jefferson National Forest and ends at Breaks Interstate Park The park is also called Virginia's Grand Canyon. Since Breaks Interstate Park is on the Virginia-Kentucky border you can experience being in two states at one time. Don't forget to bring a camera to capture the kaleidoscopic fall foliage.

Happy Fall!
