Wendy Roltgen
Coming up with tween party themes can be a bit tricky. Gone are the days of super hero themed parties or pretty princess parties. Tweens seek more independence and want their parties to express their unique personality. So when it's time to throw a party try these tween party theme ideas:

Tween Party Theme - Video Game Night

A popular party theme for tween boys is a video game tween party. Whether you have a Wii or Playstation gaming system, consider planning a tween party around some of their favorite games to play. Sporting games can allow party participants to bowl, play ping pong, tennis against each other. Set up the ultimate gaming center by providing comfortable seating for all of your guests. Design your own video game invitations and encourage your tween to help with the design.

Consider snacks popular for tailgating such as sports shaped crackers, cheese cut in fun shapes, sports drinks and other fun foods are ideal for serving during a tween video game party.

Tween Party Theme Idea - Rock Star Party

Break out the karaoke machine, guitar and cool rock star accessories to help tweens embrace their inner rock star. Decorate an area in your home to mimic a stage where guests will perform. Use Christmas lights to add ambiance to the area and provide plenty of seating for members of the audience.

Continue the rock star party theme by breaking out Rock Band or Guitar Hero and let guests test their musical talent on one of these popular video games. To keep those rock stars performing their best serve snacks that include star-shaped sandwiches, pop, rock candy and chips.

Tween Party Theme Idea - Fashion Design Challenge

This is a great tween party idea for fans of Project Runway. Start the party off by giving the guests a special assignment that involves designing a simple garment such as a skirt by using a variety of materials you have provided for them.

Materials can range from paper, blankets, bubble wrap, fabric, scarves and other items that are easy to work with. Instead of sewing items together have some heavy-duty tape or Velcro with an adhesive back on hand for the tween designers to use. Set aside a space for each guest to work on the project. When everyone has completed their design, they get to wear it down the runway.

Decorations for this tween party theme can be simple such as fashion designs cut out from magazines, sketches, and fabric samples on the wall. For the runway use a red sheet or blanket and create a narrow walkway for guests to show off their original design. Be sure to take pictures to send as home with guests.

For tween party snacks, serve miniature designer sandwiches, chocolate dipped fruits, cheese and crackers, sparkling grape juice and punch.

Help your tween express his or her personality by throwing a memorable tween party that all their guests will enjoy. Be creative and have fun working together to come up with a tween party to remember.
