Top 3 Ways to Find New Music

scott knox
It really doesn't matter what your musical tastes may be, there is usually a band that would delight your ears perfectly out there. Some people might say that you will find that band among all the big mainstream music bands. This is rather untrue. "HIM" is Finnish band that I became almost obsessed with not even 2 years ago. It is true that they are a popular band (especially in Finland), but in America the band is still somewhat unknown. It can be hard to find that band that perfectly fits you music needs. Hopefully this guide will show you 3 great ways to find new music both mainstream, and independent alike.

1. iTunes and Digital Download Services

Pretty much anyone you ask will probably know what iTunes is as it has grown to be one of the (if not the) biggest download service on the planet. You can find almost any song immaginable, as well as TV shows and Movies. iTunes isnt the only big dog in the picture though. Amazon MP3, Napster, and others all let you browse through a rather extensive library of music. In fact, many sites are claiming that they like Amazon MP3 even more that iTunes, especially since it supports a completely DRM free music library, meaning you can trasfer your music you download to anything as many times as you like. The way you can use these services to your advantage is that they are often very organized. Just by clicking the music genre you like you can browse through they're entire library. I have found MANY great albums by simply listening to the 30 second previews all of these services offer. Considering the amount of music these services contain, this could easily be one of the best ways to find new and great music. Just keep browsing and searching through their entire libraries.

2. Pandora and Online Radio Services

As we edge into the future, more and more online radio stations are showing up offering their services for free. Even if they do cost money, it usually isn't going completely amaze you with features. You can enjoy a normal radio experience free of charge. The thing is, unlike typical radio, most of these services can customize them selves to fit your needs better. Pandora and Slacker are two of most popular services right now. Deezer and Live365 are also choices you could consider. Many of these service allow you to enter in artists that you like, and then the station will customize itself with songs just for that particular taste in music. This is an amazing tool that will almost guaranteedly find you a few good songs. Just listen and find your way.

3. Billboard.com and Online Music Charts

If you are mostly a mainstream music listener, these websites can be an invaluble tool. Simply go on websites like Billboard.com and look at the top 100 songs. The most popular music around is listed here in order of popularity. Just browse through the list and listen to previews of the songs to find ones you like. Music charts are a great way to see what mainstream music is around, and there are many other sites that have more types of charts including independent music. So just browse around and see what people are listening too.
