Top 30 Best Sports Movies Ever

Michael Luchies
Honorable Mention: Cool Runnings, He Got Game, Youngblood, Happy Gilmore, Major League 2, Space Jam (just kidding)

#30. White Men Can't Jump

#29. The Sandlot

#28. The Bad News Bears

#27. Ali

#26. Cinderella Man
Russell Crowe plays a believable 1930's boxer who makes an impossible comeback.

#25. All The Right Moves
As 80's as it gets. Tom Cruise plays a high school standout defensive back who is looking to use a football scholarship to gain an education that would otherwise be impossible to get.

#24. Friday Night Lights
A great Texas High School football film with a great performance from Billy Bob Thornton and the rest of the cast.

#23. Days of Thunder
Cole Tricker against Rowdy Burns, if only real NASCAR was this good I would watch it.

#22. Murderball
Another great documentary on an unknown sport.

#21. Remember the Titans
Denzel at his best as a black high school football coach in an unforgiving racist town and era.

#20. Eight Men Out
Based on the 1919 White Sox (Black Sox).

#19. Million Dollar Baby
4 Oscars, Morgan Freeman, and Clint Eastwood, watch it if you haven't.

#18. Major League
I forget how great this movie is until it comes on TV again (which is every week).

#17. Hoop Dreams
Best sports documentary, too bad neither of the players made it big.

#16. The Hustler
This pool movie has all the drama you could ask for, and has an element of sports within it.

#15. The Longest Yard
The real Longest Yard (1974), not the remake.

#14. Bull Durham
If only I could believe that Tim Robbins could be a real life pitcher.

#13. The Natural
Best sports movie you've never seen, and my personal favorite sports movie ever, but it's no Rocky.

#12. Rocky 3
Mr. T and Hulk Hogan both get their chance at Rocky.

#11. Rocky 2
The Rematch with Apollo.

#10. Caddyshack
Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, and golf. Can't beat that.

#9. Slap Shot
The highest rated sports comedy on the list (sorry Caddyshack). Nothing better than a tough minor league hockey team that is on the verge of folding trying to stay in business.

#8. Chariots of Fire
An often forgotten and overlooked sports film. Chariots of Fire follows British athletes competing in the 1924 Olympics. You will not be disappointed by this classic sports story.

#7. Rudy
Based on a true story, Rudy fulfills his dream to play Notre Dame football no matter what it takes.

#6. Rocky 4
My personal favorite in the top 10. Rocky has to defend the death of his best friend Apollo Creed and take down his Soviet enemy Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren).

#5. Brian's Song
Is there one sports fan in the world who hasn't shed a tear after watching Brian's Song?

#4. Raging Bull
Brilliant Scorsese masterpiece that doesn't try to play nice with your heart strings. De Niro does an amazing job of playing the young and old Jake La Motta.

#3. Hoosiers
Possibly Hackman's best performance as a tough high school coach in a win at all cost Indiana town.

#2. Field of Dreams
Kevin Costner was born to star in baseball movies (Bull Durham, For the Love of the Game, Field of Dreams). James Earl Jones added a very needed piece to this movie as well.

#1. Rocky
The ultimate underdog story. Stallone played the perfect half-wit over the hill boxer and made himself a hero of Philadelphia in Rocky, the best sports movie of all-time.
