I've been to a few cupcake bakeries in New York City, and in fact earlier this week one of my teachers at NYU brought in cupcakes as an end of the semester treat. Here are four excellent cupcake bakeries I have discovered so far.
Magnolia Bakery
Located at 401 Bleeker Street, between Perry Street and 11th Street), in the West Village, this bakery is renowned for its cupcakes. Open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:130 a.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., there is no excuse not to try this place out. Even if you don't like cupcakes, Magnolia Bakery offers other treats, such as banana pudding and red velvet cheesecake. People have described their tasty treats as "an orgasm" in their mouths.
Amy's Bread
This bakery resides on 250 Bleeker Street, between Leroy and Cornelia Street, in the West Village. Amy's Bread opened in 1992, and serves bread, sandwiches, salads, and cakes, in addition to cupcakes. The staff is very friendly, and the store is open on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Crumbs
There are multiple Crumbs located throughout the city, but the one nearest to me is on 37 E 8th Street, between Green Street and University Pl., in Greenwich Village. Crumbs cupcakes have been especially on my mind lately, because they were the cupcakes my teacher brought to my class. They are giant, and covered in appetizing vanilla and chocolate frosting and festive sprinkles-a perfect sweet snack. And the best part about Crumbs? They cater!
Buttercup Bake Shop
The name says it all-who doesn't love butter? Located on 973 2nd Avenue, between 51st Street and 52nd Street, in Midtown East, this bake shop sells coffee and tea to go along with their cupcakes. The store is open Monday through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
