Top 4 Reasons to Pick Up a Nintendo Wii

A Look at the WIi and Next-Generation Consoles

Paul Cabrera
For anyone who plays video games, one of the most difficult decisions is which of the next generation consoles to buy. The Xbox, Wii, and PS3 have unique selection of games and features. So which one should you pick up? If I had the money, I'd get them all. Each has a particular area in which they shine. However, if you're like me, you most likely don't have the thousands of dollars lying around on the side. In this article, I will give my top four reasons to pick up a Nintendo Wii console, so without further ado:

1. Intuitive Controls

The strength of the Wiiis that the console is easy to pick up and play. The Wiimote features motion detection, so games become very intuitive. You can throw a baseball by mimicking a throwing motion with the Wii remote. You shoot a gun by simply aiming the remote and pressing the trigger. You drive a car by "steering" the remote left and right. You punch in a boxing game by, well, punching. You get the idea. This brand new motion control system is the number one selling point for the Wii.

2. Fun for the Whole Family

The Wii is a great console to bring friends and family into gaming, even if they are not hardcore gamers. With simple, yet fun games like WiiSports you can bring mom, dad, and grandma into the mix! Getting grandma to play Wii tennis might be a little easier on her than trying to explain Grand Theft Auto franchise, for example.

3. The Nintendo trademark

Sony and Microsoft are huge corporations with only divisions dedicated to gaming. Nintendo has spent decades specifically in the gaming industry, so you know you are buying quality and there are a ton of recognizable trademarks. If you want to spend some time sword slashing with Link or stomping goomba's head with Mario you'll have to pick up the Wii.

4. Less Pricey

The Wii, while not the cheapest of the nextgen consoles, is still offered at a very reasonable price. At $250 it is offered at only a fraction of the PS3's price. The Wii is also not that far from Microsoft's budget Xbox which sells at $200. Keep in mind that Xbox Live users, used for online gaming, must pay for a yearly subscription of about $50. The Wii, on the other hand, offers free online gaming.
