Top 4 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Las Vegas Skydive

Mike Beede
We get it. We really do. We understand that as you get ready to take one of the biggest thrills of your life by voluntarily flinging yourself out of a plane, you might be a little bit nervous, maybe even scared. This is all very understandable. We had the same apprehensions before our first jumps, but the easiest and most reliable way to calm these fears is to be sure that you are jumping with a safe, professional and experienced company. The bottom line is that you need a company that can show you a great time but make sure that you make back in one piece to tell the story. At the same time, you want to be sure that you aren't losing money by choosing one of the more expensive, lower quality skydiving companies in Nevada.

1) Skydiving Lessons

Just about every company will give you some kind of pre-flight training, but not all training classes are created equal. Be sure that the company you choose has a detailed course that goes beyond a simple video in a small room. Make sure that the company you choose will physically demonstrate and show you how to execute each portion of the jump. When jumping with a tandem skydiving instructor, your role is relatively simple, but it is important that you understand fully before you leave the plane.

2) Skydiving Equipment

Every skydiving company near Las Vegas uses a different set of gear, and you should be sure that your life is being protected by the best equipment in the industry. When you book your skydive, be sure to ask the representative if they use the state of the art automatic emergency parachute opener known as CYPRES. In the extremely rare event that neither you nor your instructor can release the parachute, this device will automatically deploy your parachute with plenty of time for a safe landing. You should also look for a company that uses square parachutes designed for increased control and comfort during your landing.

3) Skydiving Instructors

You are about to put your life and safety into the hands of a complete stranger, you want to be sure that the instructor you jump with specializes in first time jumps. While every company will claim that your safety is their first priority, we highly recommend making your first jump with a company that specializes in first-time jumpers. When talking with a skydiving company, ask specifically if all of their instructors and jump masters are individually licensed by USPA. If their jump masters are not each individually licensed by the USPA, RUN!

4) It's all about you!

Remember, you are a paying customer! You are about to shell out more than $150 to have a the best 60 seconds of your life. If the company that you are dealing with doesn't treat you well on the phone or before your jump, DON'T JUMP WITH THEM! You deserve superb service and a great experience. If you get anything less, the other drop zones in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas would be happy to help you jump.

I had a couple of friends do it and they loved it!. They went somewhere down in Florida, and they got video footage and everything. Sounds like big fun!

This is extremely well-written, so much so that I felt thoroughly prepared to ask the right questions and even find the right instructors for a first-time jumper (me) if I ever decided to do it. I have to admit that I had butterflies in my stomach as I thought about doing it, even with your reassurances and info. But your article would be the one I'd want to have as a reference if I worked up the nerve to jump.
