Top 5 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Point Guard Recruits

John Wall, Abdul Gaddy Lead the Way for 2009 Point Guards

Jackson Lewis
As we start to head into June, the 2009 NCAA recruiting classes are starting to be pretty solid. Number 1 overall prospect, John Wall followed Kentucky coach, John Calipari to Lexington as did the third overall point guard, Eric Bledsoe. Washington was able to land highly touted guard prospect, Abdul Gaddy, while Kansas and Villanova were able to sign Elijah Johnson and Maalik Wayns respectfully. It was surprising to see Duke get shutout in their search for a 5 star point guard prospect, but don't count out Coach K from finding a hidden JUCO Talent!

Top 5 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard Recruits

#1 2009 NCAA Basketball Recruit - PG - John Wall
High School: Raleigh (North Carolina) Word of God Christian Academy
College - Kentucky Wildcats
Ht: 6′4″
Wt: 185 lbs
Summary:
John Wall is already forecast as the number 1 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft Lottery and he has yet to play a college basketball game. He has great ball handling skills and is able to finish above the rim. With the remainder of Kentucky's number 1 recruiting class, the return of Patrick Patterson and potentially Jodi Meeks, Wall may also be able to add a NCAA Championship to his resume before heading to the NBA.

#2 2009 NCAA Basketball Recruit - PG - Abdul Gaddy

High School: Bellarmine Prep, Tacoma, Washington

College - Washington

Ht: 6'3"

Wt: 170lbs

Summary: Abdul Gaddy originally had committed to the Arizona Wildcats. After former coach Lute Olson announced his retirement, Gaddy decided to stay at home and attend Washington. Definitely a steal for Washington as Gaddy should be able to come in and make an immediate impact on the program. He'll likely attract some more talent to join the team out of the 2010 recruiting class, and we'll just have to wait and see if he is good enough to go to the NBA after his sophomore season or not.

#3 2009 NCAA Basketball Recruit - PG - Eric Bledsoe
High School:

College: Kentucky Wildcats

Ht: 6′1″
Wt: 185 lbs

Summary: Signing Eric Bledsoe was a steal for Coach Calipari. Bledsoe had been pretty solidly committed to the Memphis Tigers, but chose to follow Cal to Lexington. His former High School coach has expressed concerns over his playing time next season, but Bledsoe should find himself with plenty of pt in the dribble drive playing with John Wall.

#4 2009 NCAA Basketball Recruit - PG -Elijah Johnson

High School:

College: Kansas

Ht: 6'2"

Wt: 183lbs

Summary: Elijah Johnson is coming in to an already stacked Kansas Jayhawks program. Johnson will get minutes in 2009-10, but is not expected to be a full-time starter until his sophomore year.

#52009 NCAA Basketball Recruit - PG - Maalik Wayns

High School: Roman Catholic, Philadelphia, PA

College: Villanova

Ht:6'1"

Wt:190lbs

Summary:Villanova has been pulling off some of the Best recruiting classes in the Big East for the past few years now, and Maalik Wayns leads their 2009 class. An extremely fast guard and excellent ball handler, Wayns will have Nova competing for the Big East title in 2009-10.
