Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania is the home of the famous weather forecasting, shadow seeking groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. Phil was named after King Philip, and was called Br'er Groundhog before that. Legend has it that Phil's long life is due to a magical drink that he receives every summer which gives him 7 more years to live. (The average life of a groundhog is 6-8 years). Four of the five Groundhog Day celebrations listed are in Punxsy Phil's home of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

The Groundhog Eve Bash, held in Punxsutawaney, Pennsylvania (home of Punxsutawaney Phil), is held on February 01, 2010 on the rooftop of the Pantall Hotel beginning at 8 p.m. This fun filled Groundhog Day celebration will be filled with live music from the Amish rock band, The Smick Brothers. Join the 124th march to Gobbler's Knob for the main event on Groundhog Day when Punxsy Phil the groundhog makes his famous weather prediction. Gates open at 3 a.m. with a celebration of live entertainment, music, fireworks and fun with the Inner Circle (the group who plans the Groundhog Day activities). At about 7:25 a.m. Punxsutawaney Phil will awaken from his slumber to venture out for his famous prediction. Fans of snow and winter will be hoping Phils sees his shadow, and with it the prediction of six more weeks of winter. Those who dread the cold of winter will be eager for the absence of a shadow and the promise of an early spring.

Groundhog Day seems to never comes to an end for Bill Murray in the Movie Groundhog Day. On February 1 watch the movie Groundhog Day at the Jackson Theater from 5-7 p.m. or from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. The movie is free to the public with refreshments available.

A truly unique type of Groundhog Day celebration is The 32ndAnnual Groundhog Day Juggler's Festival, which is held in Atlanta, Georgia. Filled with jugglers, yo-yo artists, unicyclists and more, this Groundhog Day activity runs from February 05 - February 07, 2010. A one of a kind event with competitions, live music, shows, juggling workshops for the public and more. Hear the DeLuxe Vaudeville Orchestra at the Late Night Cabaret on Saturday, at 11 p.m. Held at the Yaarab Shrine Center at 400 Ponce de Leon Ave.

The first official Groundhog Day celebration was held on February 02, 1887. Groundhogs are known to whistle, especially in the spring when they are searching for a female friend. They also whistle when they are frightened.
