Top 5 Article Writing Mistakes to Avoid

LTPRR = Length, Typos, Plagiarism, Research and Resources

Cindy Wright
1) Length - Don't make your article too short. Your article should be no less than 300 words long. But don't just add words for the purpose of making your word count more. Make sure your article is the right length it takes to get your point across. This usually takes at least 300 words to accomplish an interesting article.

2) Typos - Check your spelling, punctuation and grammar. This is a mistake I often make and I am trying to get better at this every time I print an article. There are many word processing products that will help correct any spelling or grammar mistakes you might make. But they do not find and correct all mistakes. For example; There is just as right to a word processor most times as their. It is very important to check and double check spelling and grammar before submitting your article. If you have a friend is who is willing to read your article before you submit it let them. A fresh set of eyes will notice the silly mistakes you missed.

3) Plagiarism - Do not plagiarize. Plagiarism is when you copy someone else's work word for word. Don't take the credit of someone else's writing. Do your research, and then write the article based on what you have learned, or make sure to quote and acknowledge your resources. If you are publishing your article at a place like here at Associated Content, your work will be checked for plagiarism and if found you could be banned from writing future articles. Even if you manage to make it past the plagiarism scan you can bet someone at sometime will read your work and realize it is someone else's work and they will call you on it.

4) Research - Do not state facts that you have not researched. You can bet that someone who actually knows the facts will read your article, and they will call you out on the facts that are not stated correctly. Also it makes your article worthless to the reader and makes you look bad as a writer. If you don't think your subject is worth researching for the truth the reader will think you are not worth their time to read. I have read several articles that told things as fact that were completely false, especially when it comes to a celebrity. When I read something like this it will stop me from reading all future work from the writer because I know they do not research for the truth.

5) Resources - Make sure to put your resources in the resource box. This space is for links for more information on the topic the article is about.

Avoiding these mistakes will help you become a writer that others will come to like and respect. You can build a following of readers who know that if you write something they can believe you made sure that it was true and factual.

Great tips. However, I would like to add one thing about length. You should consider the site. One site I work for prefer shorter pieces.
