Because no one wants to pay for a cab - much less wait for one at last call - we've scouted the five best bars within stumbling, er, walking distance of ASU.
1. Casey Moore's Oyster House
(850 S. Ash Ave., Tempe)
Sure, the joint sells delicious food at lunch, but after 8 p.m. this historic house is packed. Known for its expansive patio, Casey Moore's is often referred to as the "Cheers" of Tempe. While everyone may not know your name, all are greeted at this friendly, laidback pub.
2. Dos Gringos Trailer Park
(1001 E. Eighth St., Tempe, dosgringosaz.com)
Dos Gringos became the perfect day-drinking spot while housed on University Avenue, near the Newman Center. Due to reformed liquor laws the cheap beer bar was bumped out of its sweet location. The Trailer Park found a new home east of campus, and while it's not the day-drinking hotspot these days, it's always packed at night. Strong drinks, cheap beer, dancing and a whole lot of body shots fill nights at the Trailer Park.
3. Tavern on Mill
(404 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, tavernonmill.com)
At the north end of Mill Avenue, the Tavern is the low-key option for those still interested in drinks by the yard. Tavern on Mill gives patrons things to do while drinking, including offering pool tables. Bonus: the bar is known for its hot bar staff.
4. The Library Bar & Grill
(501 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, thelibraryusa.com)
Great drink specials and sexy servers bring ASU students to this corner bar. The Library offers a weekly ladies' night, and while women come to the suds stop frequently, the bar is tailored to male clientele. Servers dress in schoolgirl uniforms - short skirts, knee socks and the like - to add flirty fun to the theme bar.
5. The Big Bang
(501 S. Mill Ave., #B101, Tempe, thebigbangbar.com)
If your friends keep asking you to quit singing in the cab back to the dorm, you need to start hitting The Big Bang. The bar is home to dueling pianos. The house performers put on shows, but more importantly, everyone is welcome to belt out a few tunes. This way when you become the singing drunk, you're backed with live music. Plus, everyone else will be knocking back drinks. So, they'll think you sound good, too.
