Top 5 Big 12 Players for 2009

Nick Mayer
1. Sam Bradford - Oklahoma - Quarterback - This one is a no brainer. Sam Bradford, as a sophomore, was considered to be the best player in college football last year. He won the Heisman Trophy and has a good chance of doing it again. He threw for 50 touchdowns last season and with the way that Oklahoma recruits there is no reason that he shouldn't be able to come come close to that number again. The only thing affecting his chances are that he is getting four new offensive linemen and a completely new group of wide receivers. All things aside though, Bradford is the best quarterback in the NCAA along with Tim Tebow and he will be the best player in the Big 12 this upcoming season.

2. Colt McCoy - Texas - Quarterback - In any other conference, Colt McCoy would be the top player. But with Sam Bradford playing for Oklahoma, Colt will have to settle for 2nd. He threw for 34 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions last season and with the way Texas is shaping up this year, McCoy looks primed to improve on those numbers. He attended the Heisman ceremonies last year, but this year he could not only attend, he could also win.

3. Robert Griffin - Baylor - Quarterback - This man, as a freshman, stunned the NCAA by proving that Baylor can actually play football. In his first season, he threw for over 2,000 yards and had a 15:3 Touchdown to Interception ratio. For a player just one year out of high school, this is a tremendous feat. Griffin has shown that he has the skills to make Baylor a contendor in the Big 12, if not this year then in his future years as a Bear.

4. Todd Reesing - Kansas - Quarterback - Here is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the NCAA. Being overshadowed by other Big 12 quarterbacks such as Graham Harrel, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Chase Daniels, and a few others, Reesing has helped turn the entire Kansas Jayhawk team around. Before him the team was along the lines of Baylor, they had no talent or potential but out of nowhere they began to succeed. In his last two years at Kansas, he has thrown for an average of about 3,500 yards and 33 touchdowns. This year Reesing will step up and be one of the premier quarterbacks in the Big 12.

5. Dez Bryant - Oklahoma State - Wide Receiver - After showcasing the top 4 quarterbacks in the Big 12, Dez Bryant finishes out the top 5 as the conferences most dynamic and exciting wide receiver. As he is only going to be a junior this upcoming season, he has a lot of room to improve on his already fantastic career at Oklahoma State. Although he lost his teammate Brandon Pettigrew, the passing attack should still be just as good as it was last year and Dez Bryant should be putting up just as good of numbers.
