Top 5 Board Games for Children

Stacy Hensley
Children of all ages love to play games. Board games are a great way to learn, while having fun interactions with other players. As a mother of 3, I've spent quite a few hours playing games. Below is a list of what I believe to be the top 5 board games for children.

1. Monopoly
Ages 8 and up
Players 2 to 8

Playing Monopoly is a great way to spend an evening with your family. Move around the board and purchase properties as you go. Landing on the properties owned by other players will require you to pay rent. Build up your properties and strike some good deals to try and force the other players to go bankrupt.

2. Sorry
Ages 6 and up
Players 2 to 4

Sorry is a fun family game to play over and over again. This is a game of luck, strategy, and determination. The object is to move all your pieces around the board, and get them all to the final spot. But watch out, because the other players can send you back to the starting position.

3. The Game of Life
Ages 9 and up
Players 2 to 6

Children have always loved pretending to be grown up. The Game of Life gives them that opportunity. They can get married, have kids, go to college, or start a career in The Game of Life. This game is fun for the whole family.

4. Candyland
Ages 3 to 6
Players 2 to4

Preschool kids love to take a journey through Candyland. By matching color coded cards, kids move their gingerbread man around the board in hopes of being the 1st to reach the end. This game helps teach children color recognition, matching, how to take turns, and how to deal with winning and losing.

5. Trivial Pursuit for Kids
Ages 8 and up
Players 2 to 4

This is a great family-friendly game for children. Answer a question correctly in each of the 6 child-friendly categories to collect a wedge. After you collect all 6 wedges, you need to get your game piece to the center of the board and answer a final question to win.

With the busy schedules we all have these days, it's sometimes hard to find a time where the entire family can get together. So, schedule a family night, and drag out some of these board games. Whether it is once a week, or once a month, it's a great way to get some quality time with your family.

These games can be found in most local department stores, or you can find them online at Amazon.com.

I played a game with my grandchildren while camping and I can't remember the name. 8 players can play and you read cards and decide which one of the 8 people would be most likely to fit what was read. My grandson wants it and I can't reach the little girl that had it. Help!

Good piece. I have played all of these several times at least during my life. Although my favorite is a german game called Settlers of Catan.

Candyland was my favorite! I still like Monopoly, even though I almost never win. Great list!

I like your choices, but our favorite board game is Risk and Apples to Apples, which isn't necessarily a Board Game but a game that is played with specific decks of cards. Love games, nice fun article to remember those Monopoly marathons!
