Top 5 Books for Teens

C Tripp
If your teen is like every other teen in America, they are probably complaining right now that they are bored. You've just stumbled on the solution to your problem! This list of my top 5 books for teens is definitely a boredom killer, so read on and discover entertainment and excitement with every turn of the page.

Number 5: (with is actually number 8, 7, 6, and 5, but hey.)

The Dawn Rochelle series by Lurlene McDaniel

This series is the story of a young girl, Dawn Rochelle, who, in the first novel, is diagnosed with Leukemia. The following books detail her fight through remission and relapse, cancer camp, and the death of her best friend. I would recommend this series (and any other book by Lurlene McDaniel) to any teen. As you journey through the unknown with Dawn, you may just find yourself in tears more than once, as this touching series tells the good, the bad and the ugly. Even though this series is only number 5 on my list, it would be one of the first things I recommend to any teen (and adults, too.)

Number 4:

Genius Squad by Catherine Jinks

This book is the second in the trilogy that began with Evil Genius (number 3!) This book continues the story of Cadel Piggot, a young evil genius. In this novel, Cadel and Sonja join The Genius Squad, a group of teens trying to bring down GenoMe, a corporation believed to be that of the Darkkon Empire. This gripping thiller has is packed with surprises and has action around every turn.

Number 3:

Evil Genius by Catherine Jinks

This book is the first in the Evil Genius trilogy. This book begins with 7-year-old Cadel Piggot, a young hacker who enjoys hacking into power grids and high security networks. Soon, you are introduced to Dr. Thaddeus Roth, an interesting child psychologist. When Cadel graduates from high school at age 13, he is welcomed into the Axis Institute for World Domination. Yes, you read that right, an institute for world domination! As the story continues, you meet many unique characters, and see many of the same characters killed. I would strongly recommend this book for any one who liked Harry Potter even a little tiny bit (and every other teen.)

Number 2:

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Gone with the Wind is a classic, romantic drama. It is set in the southern United States during the Civil War. Gone with the Wind is the story of Scarlett O'Hara, the teenage daughter of an Irish plantation owner. I would recommend this book for any teen who likes a good romance.

Number 1:

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The Giver is set in a futuristic society. The society has been able to almost entirely eradicate pain and suffering by converting to "sameness." That's as much as I will say about this novel, as it is so good that it is hard to describe and I don't want to tell too much. I urge you and your teen to read this book, you will not be disappointed.
