Susan G. Komen For the Cure - Founded in 1982, Susan G. Komen For the Cure was launched by Nancy Brinker as a promise to her sister (Komen), a victim of breast cancer. The organization is currently one of the most widely recognized proponents in the fight against the disease. Komen For the Cure supports awareness, research, treatment and screening through received donations. Aside from straight donations. Komen hosts a variety of programs through which you can offer support. Donors can host a "Passionately Pink For the Cure" fundraising event to solicit donations from community peers. The "Global Promise Fund" invites volunteer missionaries to take part in excursions abroad meant to bring about widespread awareness, support and governmental policy changes on a global front. Additionally, Komen For the Cure hosts the popular "Race For the Cure" 5K run annually. They also accept gifts of publicly traded stocks, estate donations, designated payroll deductions drafted to Komen For the Cure.
National Breast Cancer Foundation - Since 1991, the NBCF has been supporting the fight against breast cancer through programs aimed at increased awareness and early detection. Created by a breast cancer survivor, this organization benefits from the firsthand perspective which allows them to extend sympathetic support to those affected by the disease, and their loved ones. Aside from ongoing encouragement for those actively battling breast cancer, the NBCF addresses the vital aspect of early detection through free or low-cost mammograms to those who are financially unable to afford them. The NBCF offers volunteer opportunities, options to host fundraising events, individual monetary donations, gifts of stock or planned estate gifts.
Breast Cancer Research Foundation - In 1993, the BCRF was also conceived by a breast cancer survivor. Evelyn Lauder (of Estee Lauder fame) founded the organization as a means to understand, research, prevent and cure the disease. Lauder is also responsible for the recognizable pink ribbon symbol that has become a sort of trademark in the breast cancer battle. The BCRF contributes to research programs in leading medical centers and institutions around the world. Over 90% of their donated monies go directly into funding research programs. One of their more popular methods of donation is through hosting a "Bunco For Breast Cancer" fundraiser party. Fans of sporting/cultural events raise funds via "Play For P.I.N.K.", during related tournaments and gatherings. "The Pink Agenda" organization centers on awareness and activism among today's youth. Also targeting awareness and early detection in younger women is the donation-based "Anastacia Fund", established in the name of singer/songwriter/survivor, Anastacia. "The Survivors' Circle" offers breast cancer survivors who are affiliated with small businesses to get involved on a corporate level partnership. "Through Time For Research", supporters can create their own fundraising Website to invite friends and family to sponsor research time toward a breast cancer cure. The BCRF accepts gifts of publicly traded stocks, estate donations and designated payroll deductions. Donors can also support the foundation by purchasing products through their "Shop Pink" online store, which includes a wide variety of items from apparel and jewelry to home decor and more.
Breast Cancer Network of Strength - For over 30 years, BCNS has offered breast cancer support in a most fundamental, but essential form. Uniquely, BCNS does not offer center on fundraising and research. Instead, their primary focus is on emotional support and encouragement from peers who share the burdens and fears of breast cancer. The organization offers 24 hour support through a telephone hotline (known as "YourShoes") staffed by trained counselors who are also breast cancer survivors. The "Network of Strength Advocacy" program provides opportunities for registered advocates to take action in the form of legislative movements. Supporters can run with the "Pink Streak Marathon Team" in various organized marathons throughout the year, or bike in the "Ride to Empower" event. Additionally, breast cancer supporters gather at various locations nationwide for the "Walk to Empower" annual Mother's Day event. BCNS offers wigs and prostheses devices for those battling breast cancer with limited financial means, and they always welcome donors for this project as well. "A Day For You" events are hosted in select cities, offering onsite screening, exams and general breast cancer education. BCNS accepts general monetary donations, vehicle donations, estate gifts, gifts of stock and payroll deductions, as well as funds raised from purchases through their eBay auctions.
Living Beyond Breast Cancer - Founded in 1991, Living Beyond Breast Cancer offers much-needed support to breast cancer survivors as they attempt to cope with the recovery from cancer treatment. They extend their services to caregivers and medical providers in an effort to better prepare them in handling the specific needs of their patients through educational workshops and seminars.
