October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Reena Das
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual event in October to increase awareness about the disease, an opportunity to generate funds for research and a gentle nudge to women to get those annual mammograms. Cancer.gov reported 192,370 women and 1910 men were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. Among them 40,170 women and 440 men died.

To help facilitate, many companies opt to go pink with their breast cancer merchandise during the month of October. A certain percentage of the sale is donated to the Breast Cancer organizations for ongoing research. A great way to show their support and dedication towards this global problem!
