Top 5 Cell Phones on the Market

And A List of New Phones Coming Soon

Terry Rode
I work at the local Radio Shack here in Monticello, New York, and I am using my knowledge of dealing with cell phones every day to rank the top 5 cell phones on the market.

Number 5 is the Blackberry Pearl 8100. The pearl is available through AT&T, and T-Mobile. T-Mobile was the first provider to carry the Blackberry Pearl. It has a fairly long talk time on the battery of 3.5 hours. It's the smaller, thinner model of the Blackberry Curve. The Blackberry Pearl has a modified QWERTY keyboard with a typing style known as SureType, Internet access and the ability to check business e-mails, 2.0 megapixel camera and the Pearl 8120 has Wi-Fi Access. It has a micro SDslot and can hold up to a 4GB memory card. The reason why it is 5th on the list is because of its small size. Many customers like the Curve because it is bigger and bulkier and much easier to type on.

Number 4 is the LG Shine. The LG Shine is specifically available through AT&T and runs off of a Sim Card. It is the most popular slider phone on the market right now. With a 2.0 megapixel camera, the screen, when idle, can also be used as a mirror. It has web capabilities and an all metal design which comes in 2 colors plus 2 special edition models. The original colors are black and silver and the special edition colors are Gold, which costs 50 dollars more then the original, and an exclusive Iron Man edition, with a red and yellow design with an 18K gold battery cover.

Number 3 is the LG Rumor. The LG Rumor is specifically available through Sprint. The LG Rumor comes in 5 colors. Black/Blue, Green/Silver, White/Silver, Light Blue/Silver, and Dark Blue/Silver (Best Buy Exclusive). The LG Rumor has a 1.3 Megapixel camera, full slide out QWERTY keyboard for easy texting and web browsing. It come equipped with Instant Messaging on the phone through MSN, Yahoo or AIM. The only reason why the LG Rumor is ahead of the LG Shine is because of the slide out keyboard. This phone was made for easy texting and that is very important to customers, especially teenagers.

Number 2 is the Palm Centro. The Palm Centro is available through AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. The Palm Centro is a great PDA with e-mail, and web capabilities. The web browsing is a great feature to this Palm, and the full QWERTY keyboard makes for easy navigation. The only problem with the keyboard is that the letters are kind of too close together but the resolution on the 2.0 megapixel camera and the use of Microsoft Word makes up for that. It comes in many colors. For Sprint, it comes in Red, PInk and Black. For AT&T is comes in Black, Pink and an Exclusive Light Blue. For Verizon it comes in Black and White.

And the Number 1 cell phone out right now is......The Samsung Instinct. The Instinct is exclusive for Sprint. It is a full touchscreen phone with GPS capabilities, full QWERTY touchscreen keyboard, MP3 player built into it and has visual voicemail, which allows you go to back and hear the voicemail message you want to hear without having to go through all of them to get to the one you want to listen to. The Instinct is a fantastic phone for people on the go, and the Live TV/Movies feature is perfect for that. You can listen to the radio, go on the web, check personal and business e-mails on the go. Picture and video messaging is also available on this phone.

Check back in a few months as new phones are already being put out. Here is a list of a few:

AT&T Vu
Blackberry Thunder (1st Touchscreen Blackberry(exclusive to Verizon)
Rogers' Blackberry KickStart (1st Flip Blackberry(Only in Canada)
Palm Treo Pro (1st Flush Touchscreen Palm Phone)
