Top 5 "Chick Flicks"

Jennifer Rodriguez
Every one knows that a "chick flick" is a movie that is made to appeal to the female audience. Although most guys will NEVER admit it, they too enjoy the occasional chick flick. Chick flicks come in two basic categories: tear-jerker and romantic comedy. Although I am a fan of them all, I myself prefer the latter. "'Tis better to laugh than to cry," as I always say.

The word "good" is very subjective since everyone's idea of good is different, but here are some of my favorites:

1. Hitch- This is my all-time favorite. It has a wonderful cast and is absolutely charming and hilarious. Will Smith plays Alex Hitchens, the best relationship consultant in New York. He is working to help clumsy, yet lovable Albert Brennaman (Kevin James) win the love of beautiful socialite, Allegra Cole (Amber Valetta). Hitch also has his hands full wooing the lovely Sara Melas (Eva Mendes) a cynical tabloid columnist who is surprised to discover that the man she has fallen in love with is the infamous date doctor. Looks like the relationship expert still needs to learn a thing or two about love. This movie has everything a chick flick (or any other movie for that matter) should have, it is funny and absolutely delightful.

2. Love Actually- This British comedy is absolutely superb. It features a wonderful cast and captures the true essence of love in different stages of life, different social classes and under different circumstances (All in one movie!). It tells the stories of an unlikely romance between a Prime Minister(Hugh Grant) and one of his employees, a couple (Colin Firth and Sienna Guillory) who speak two different languages, but are crazy about each other despite the barrier, a woman (Laura Linney) who has secretly loved her co-worker for years but hasn't told him... If you want to know the rest, watch the movie, you won't be sorry.

3. The Wedding Planer- Jennifer Lopez is Mary Fiore, a hard-working wedding planner who is amazingly good at her job. Her life is busy. yet simple. That is until she falls in love with a charming doctor (Matthew McConaughey) who unbeknownst to her happens to be the groom in one of the weddings that she is planning. Also featuring Bridgette Wilson-Sampras as the fiancee of the charming doctor, this movie is heartwarming and romantic.

4. The Wedding Date- Debra Messing is Kat, a woman who in order to avoid the shame and ridicule of attending her sister's wedding alone, hires an escort (Dermot Mulroney) to be her date. Their relationship is strictly platonic... that is until they start falling for one another. Can he fall for a client? Can she love some one with a profession that she declared "morally repugnant"? Watch to find out.

5. Must Love Dogs- This delightful movie explores the joys (and the horrors) of internet dating. Diane Lane Plays Sarah Nolan, a divorced pre-school teacher. After failed attempts by her family to set her up with a nice guy, Sarah's sister (Elizabeth Perkins) creates a profile for her on perfectmatch.com. Lack of dates is no longer a problem, however many of them are strange or socially inept in some way (We've all been there). There is one who stands out in the crowd. Meet Jake (John Cusack), also divorced and at times a little too intense, but at the same time sweet and attractive. This movie is proof that sometimes having a family that is a little too involved in your life can have its benefits.

I am a weird "chick". I would rather watch Gladiator or The Patriot. Then again, I read a lot of 1800's novel too! Maybe I was born a little too late! Great read!
