Top 5 Child Stars Who Grew Up and Became Idiots

Amanda Abella
Child stars have long had a reputation for losing their stardom and well...their minds. With Lindsay Lohan's jail time in the near distant future it only seemed appropriate to compile a list of child stars with some of the most note worthy reputations.

5. Danny Bonaduce

The red haired cutie pie from the hit TV show The Partridge Family lost his stardom quickly after the show ended. By the end of the 1970s Bonaduce had started meddling in drugs, rendering him homeless and addicted to crack.

While Bonaduce's behavior was typical for burnt out child stars, by the 1990s Bonaduce had taken it to a new level. Bonaduce was arrested for assaulting a transvestite prostitute, went to rehab three times to shake the coke habit, and ended up with alcoholism instead.

Thanks to the wonderful innovation that is reality TV, Bonaduce managed to eventually get himself on screen again. He currently hosts a radio show in Philadelphia.

4. Gary Coleman

The hilarious and lovable actor that was the epitome of 1970s and 80s child stardom took a wrong turn when entering his adult career. Entering adulthood Coleman's fame had fizzled out, he was estranged from his parents, and he was working as a security guard in Disney Land.

Coleman proceeded to sue his parents, punch a woman, and destroy a couple of cars with his own. But perhaps Coleman is most remembered for his explosive tantrum on VH1s The Surreal Life when he refused to say his famous catchphrase per the request of Vanilla Ice.

Ladies and gentlemen, you know you have hit rock bottom when Vanilla Ice comes out looking like the hero.

3. Corey Haim

The bad boy roles that Corey Haim had managed to land in his early career seemed to have transcended into his personal life. Haim had multiple addictions with drugs and booze, and eventually just lost control. Entering rehab fifteen times did not help help Haim, as he suffered a drug induced stroke that landed him into a coma.

Ironically, after a life of mind numbing substance abuse, Corey Haim managed to die of pneumonia.

4. Lindsay Lohan

This list would not be complete without mentioning the once adorable freckled child turned attention seeking hot mess. Long gone are the days of The Parent Trap and in are the days of booze cruising, drugs, and jail. Idiot parents trying to make a buck do not help her cause either.

The good news when it comes to Lohan is that many believe she can turn around. After all she is still young. Here's hoping jail does her some good.

5. Michael Jackson

The King of Pop is also the king of this list. Though it is undeniable that Michael Jackson was blessed with some of the best musical talent ever seen, it is also undeniable that he may have been missing a few neurons. In the later years of his life the pop mega-star added eccentric to his resume, along with attention seeking, court room dancing, baby dangling, possible child molester, and all around weirdo.

We have all heard the stories about his abusive father and the grueling life the five year old Michael had to live when constantly in the spot light. Let's not forget the fact his family members were constantly depending on his fame. For this and many other reasons, it is really a shame that such a talented person's life went awry. And although people have many opinions on Jackson, from Wacko-Jacko to odd ball musical genius, it remains true that his life was always entertaining and his death was tragic.

Very entertaining and funny. A nice twist on "celebrity" articles.

I, also, am not into celebrities. Most of these are not familiar to me. However, the title was a good one. I'd be interested in a piece on child stars of the past...

i don't normally read articles pertaining to celebrities but your title captured my attention. I have to say that I do not feel sorry for any of these people. Very good article with an honest spin.
