Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween

Great Halloween Books Decided by a 5 Year Old and an 8 Year Old

Linda StCyr
Halloween is right around the corner so head to your local book store or library to pick out some great Children's books for Halloween. Each book listed here in the Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween has been read in my household and comes recommended and approved by my two children, Patrick (8) and Andrew (5). Both of whom I considered Halloween babies because they were both born in the month of October.

#5 on the Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween-

tThe Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat by Stan and Jan Berentstain is a cute tale about the Berenstain cubs first time out trick or treating without their parents. Brother and Sister Bear learn about appearances and not judging people by the way they look. It is a book we read in my home often and not just for Halloween. Visit the official website of the Berenstain Bears for book pricing, fun and information on other Berenstain books.

#4 on the Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween-

Humbug Witch by Lorna Balian is perfect for the younger crowd. It is a book filled with wonderfully vivid pictures that tells the story of a scary-looking little witch who can't do the things witches can do. She can't fly on a broom, cackle like a witch or mix magic potions. You'll have to read it to find out why. You can find Humbug Witch at Amazon.

#3 on the Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween-

Dragon's Halloween by Dav Pilkey comes in at number three on the list for his story about Dragon and his quest to have the perfect Halloween. This book is for the younger aged crowd of 3-5 year olds but even my 8 year old approves. Dav Pilkey is mostly known for his book series "The Adventures of Captain Underpants" but his other books are worth taking a look at. Other children's books written by Pilkey that are perfect for Halloween include "Hallo-Wiener", "Dogzilla", "Kat Kong" and "God Bless the Gargoyles".

#2 on the Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween-

No More Monsters for Me by Peggy Parish, illustrated by Marc Simont, is a great story and perfect for Halloween since it deals with monsters. Although, not based around Halloween the story is about a little girl who wants a pet and winds up bringing home a lost monster. Trying to hide the monster becomes a complicated task. This is a book in the "I Can Read" series and is perfect for ages 3-9. Young readers will have fun reading the story aloud to you.

#1 on the Top 5 Children's Books for Halloween-

Is actually a series of books illustrated by Mercer Mayer, personally one of my favorite authors of children's books, and written by Erica Farber and J. R. Sansevere called "Critters of the Night". The "Critters of the Night" series of books includes vivid graphics with rhyming stories all with a unique lesson to be learned. Some of my children's favorites for Halloween include "Midnight Snack", "No Howling in the House", "To Catch a Little Fish", and "Zoom on My Broom".

Check out these books at your local library or bookstore for some fun Halloween reading.
