Top 5 Christmas Gift Cards for Your Grandparents

For Christmas, Holidays, Anniversaries or Birthdays

Wendy Rose Gould
When it comes time to purchase gifts for my family, be it for Christmas, birthday, anniversary, whatever, I always struggle with what to buy my grandparents. After all, they have lived long enough to possess plenty of personal items (perhaps too many!), their house is fully furnished and anything extra just gets in the way. The cure-all for any gift-dilemma is a gift card. But choosing the right card can be tricky, especially for people who you may not relate with on everything. That's why yours truly sat down and thought about the most appropriate gift cards for the people who can be extra tricky to buy for: your grandparents. Here is list that takes into account the fact that your grandparents probably aren't looking to accumulate more "stuff." I present to you: Top 5 gift cards for your grandparents (they are in no particular order).

1.) A pre-paid event (voucher/certificate)

There are countless events happening in your neighborhood, I'm sure. And if you live in a small town (hey, I grew up in one too), an event voucher for a bigger neighboring city can be very exciting! You can often purchase gift cards or gift coupons/certificates/tickets for any kind of event. Try these venues: concerts (of a genre that would suit them), the opera, the symphony, Broadway, dinner/show venues, etc.

2.) Gas cards

You can call me Miss Practical. Anyone can benefit from a gift card that goes toward gas money and that definitely includes your grandparents. Do your grandparents use public transportation instead? Many cities offer cards you can fill up/give as gifts to cover transportation costs.

3.) A dinner gift card

My grandparents are always eating out so it's easy for me to think of some of their favorite places to go. If you know your grandparents' favorite restaurant, purchase a gift card for that location. If you're unsure, why not send them out on an adventure? For example, you could purchase a gift card for an international cuisine! If your grandparents aren't the adventurous type, you can play it safe and buy a gift card from a place you think they'd enjoy for sure!

4. Movie ticket gift card

These days we're often too busy to think of going to a movie. Same is probably true for your grandparents, but movies can be a great "breather." Purchase a gift card that covers both of their admissions and enough for them to "splurge" on some popcorn and a drink. I promise they'll appreciate this classic gift!

5. Coffee gift cards

Even if your grandparents aren't a big fan of coffee, there are plenty of other options at most cafes. There's tea, snacks, sodas and plenty of other decaffeinated beverages. Purchase a gift card for their favorite local coffee shop or introduce them to your favorite!

Good luck!

Great ideas, especially the gas card! Grandparents are known for not using the junk we buy them, so I agree - gift cards are the way to go.
