Anything Works!

Do you have someone in your family or circle of friends that loves to collect junk? They go from garage sales to thrift store to swap meets looking for great bargains or maybe just something so unusual it's hard to resist. They can find things no one else can. You have seen comic books, defused bombs, rabbit feet, rabbit fur, hook and eyes, coins, engine parts, a telescope, old toys, cloth, teeth from some kind of animal and many other items. They take up room and are beginning to over run their home and sometime yours!

So what do you give as a gift to someone with everything no one knows anything about? It's easy and fun to shop for the junk collector because they will love anything you give them. Here are my top five picks for the person who may own a gold mine and not even know it.

1. "A Treasure Box." Buy a nice box of some kind. It can be a card board Christmas box, a cheap wooden box or even just a plastic box you found somewhere! Next fill it with things you find around the house, yard or neighbors like buttons, nice stones, pieces of glass, screws, beads, articles, postcards, old coins, pens or pencils, ect. You get the idea. Everyone contributes and you have a true gift for the junk collector.

2. Create a theme collection of items. You can choose several old and new pipes or political buttons of the past. Maybe a bag of marbles or several packs of different types of playing cards. Most of these items you can get new but if you happen to find a couple used and very old items in your theme it just makes the gift that much more special.

3. Your junk collector is the original "green" living person. They do their part to recycle our waste into something of value or beauty. They have a talent for finding homes for anything they don't want to keep for themselves and donate wonderfully weird things for auctions to raise money for a good cause. So Check with your local department store like Wal Mart and Target for plastic container with lids from the size of a shoe box to larger sizes big enough to hold several blanket and old books. Now your collector will have a way to organize good, bad and ugly!

4. Every collector should have a copy of "The Idiot's Guide To EBay", "Antiques and Collectibles" and "Comics Values". These three books are a must for your collector to place a monetary value on items. They will also learn how to make extra income for more junk purchases with their very own eBay store front if they should so choose. But no matter what the value is in dollars it will never be worth the sentimental value of a good find and a great bargain.

5. Last and most important give your collector pictures of the people they love and that love them. This is a gift true gift of love and time for the person who cherishes everything on this earth no matter how small or how little it is worth to someone else. It is a memory of their life and will be a precious gift for you when they are gone and leave you everything in their well packed and unorganized home, storage and garage.

Good luck and remember the junk collector can appreciate a gift no matter what you give, because it will always have the worth of the person who gave it in love.
