In today's economy it pays to spend with credit cards that reward you with cash back on purchases. I always choose to pay with a card that gives me cash back on all of the money I spend. Here are five cards with cash back rewards that may suit your needs in a time when it pays to be savvy.

Discover More Card The Discover More credit card allows you to receive a cash back rebate for all of your purchases. Discover More card holders receive 5% cash back on purchases in changing categories such as gas, groceries, and restaurants. All other purchases automatically qualify for 1% cash back. Shop major department stores online at Shop Discover and qualify for up to 20% cash back. Another perk of this card is no annual fee and 0% APR on purchases for the first six months.

Chase Freedom This card from Chase gives you $50 cash back rebate after your first purchase. Chase Freedom card holders receive 3% cash back on purchases in rotating categories as well. Shopping online through Chase will net you up to 20% cash back on any purchase. The Chase Freedom credit card also has no annual fee and 0% APR on purchases for the first year.

Costco American Express Card This card from American Express and retailer Costco rewards its card holders with up to a 3% cash back rebate up gasoline and restaurant purchases. This credit card also gives you cash rebate of up to 2% on purchases made for travel and 1% on all your other purchases (even if they're not at Costco). This American Express card allows payments to be made over time and there is no annual fee with a Costco membership. There is also no 0% APR for the first six months.

Citi Cash Returns Card Citi sends you a check every time you accumulate at least $50 in cash rewards. You will only accumulate 1.2% cash back for the first year and then 1% after. There are also no annual fees for having this credit card.

Discover Student Card Available for college students this credit card is intended to help build credit. This card offers the same advantages and rewards as the Discover More card for those who may not have deemed themselves as credit worthy yet.

Consumer Reports warns credit card consumers that the annual interest rate on rewards cards is often higher than that of a traditional credit card. They also ask credit card holders to be aware of rewards caps on purchases and to always read the fine print.
