Cycling is also an excellent way to save money on gasoline that would normally be put into a car and is, of course, better for the environment.
So whatever the reason for having an interest in cycling, be sure to take a look at these 5 cycling tips for women. Not only will these women's cycling tips help to achieve maximum health potential for the body and mind, these cycling tips will also help to make the ride more comfortable.
Cycling Tip for Women #1: Choose a Seat Made Specifically for Women
This is my biggest gripe with cycling; the rear end can become quite sore when cycling for an extended period of time. The fact is women and men are made differently and many of the cycle seats are not made for women. However, there are seats made specifically for the benefit of women cyclists and a comfortable rear end cannot be over emphasized enough; nothing can cut a bicycle ride quicker than a sore rear end.
Cycling Tip for Women #2: Make Sure to Warm Up
Cycling can be a strenuous form of exercise and like any other exercise program, it is really important to warm up by doing some stretching first before jumping on the cycle. Also start out slow on your ride, to get maximum health benefits it is important to warm up those muscles gradually and increase the heart rate gradually.
Cycling Tip for Women #3: Know the Area and Pick Safe Routes
Women cyclist need to keep safety in mind when riding, not only by following the road rules but also by making sure that the same considerations to personal safety are given just as if you were taking a walk or run. Be sure to ride in open areas where you are visible and where you could get to a safe house or building if the need would arise; knowing the area you are riding in is very important.
Cycling Tip for Women #4: Know Basic Bike Care
Knowing the basics on how to care for your cycle is so important to keep the cycle in tip top shape. Be sure to check the air pressure of the tires at least once a week and know the correct inflation range so that you do not put too much air in the tires or not enough, know how to lube the gears and cables so your cycle will perform at maximum potential. Most cycles come with an instruction manual and although many women are short on time and the last thing that there is time for is to read a manual, be sure to make reading it a priority-your bike will thank you.
Cycling Tip for Women #5: Find a Friend to Ride With
Cycling with a friend makes the journey even better; finding someone you can partner up with not only helps with motivation but also helps with safety issues. Two is better than one and in the case of cycling; pair riding can be a joy.
Cycling is so much fun and following these cycling tips for women makes the ride even better!
