Top 5 Destinations for a Honeymoon

I traveled a lot with my friends and on my own. During my trips, there were moments when I felt "I wish I was here on my honeymoon with my husband". These places were so special that I wanted to share it with someone special.

When you are picking your honeymoon destination, avoid the cliches like Hawaii or Paris. On your way to Hawaii, even at the airport, you will find yourself lined up with other honeymoon couples. There will be many other honeymoon couples staying in your hotel, dining at the same restaurants. Try to pick up a place where you as a couple will feel special. Hawaii has great spots but please go there some other time.

I would avoid Paris too because it is another cliche, and the Parisians might make you feel bad. They are not kind enough to tourists and you do not have to put up with that, especially not on your honeymoon. Plus it is too big, loud and crowded with tourists.

Best honeymoon spots are where the weather is good (avoid hot weathers where you need air conditioners). Not so big, not so small towns/cities with great eating options. Also try to avoid very long flights, where you need to make a lot of connecting flights. Surely Cape Town, South Africa; Tac Mahal, India or Great Barrier Reef, Australia are great places to visit but I would not threaten my fresh marriage with very long flights and stressful connections. I do not recommend for honeymoon.

So here are my suggestions

1. Bergen, Norway
Heaven on earth! It is gorgeous. It is not very big so you won't have to deal with transportation and noise. The weather is generally cold so you will need to keep each other warm! It has great, interesting art galleries, aquarium, fish market, so much to see. It has many eating (and drinking) options so you will have memories of trying different things. In Bergen, you can walk by the water, take scenic tours-magnificient views of the islands. You can take a cruise to Bergen too if you don't want to spend all your time in Bergen.

2. Barcelona, Spain
Another heaven on earth. This is a big city but still it is not hard to get around. It is the capital of Catalonia. The weather is generally very good. Barcelona is romantic and fun. The food is great. It is cheaper than Bergen but, still not so cheap. Do I even need to mention the great art, Gaudi's impressive architecture? The people in Barcelona are fun, they are enjoying themselves and surely this will reflect to you. Have a few sangrias and wait for the dinner which won't be served until 10:00 pm.

3. Burlington, Vermont
One of my favorite spots in US. It has a population of 40, 000 people. You can take walks around the harbor, have great dinners at the restaurants. It is fun and relaxing. I might have made it feel like a retired community spot but it really is not like that. It is romantic and hip. Some think it is a little like Montreal, obviously a smaller version. If you like winter sports, it is a great great destination. They hosted winter Olympics twice!

4. Positano, Italy
Himmm, Italy. It is hard to pick the best spot in Italy as there are so many. Amalfi Coast is impressive, the food is amazing, the weather is superb; the people are flirty and fun. You will feel great in Positano. It is a little touristy and therefore expensive but what can you do? If you can afford it, highly recommended.

5. Florence, Italy
Italy, once again. Florence is an ideal spot for honeymoon. It is romantic but not like a forced romance that will make you feel uncomfortable. It has so much to see, beautiful bridges, great art. The food is great with many options. Again it is a little touristy but don't worry it is not like Paris. Try to pick September/October or April/May/June. You can rent a car and drive in Tuscany, try wines in the wineries.

Wherever you go, I recommend that you read about it before you leave home. I wish you lots of fun and love.
