Top 5 Drum Circles in Ohio

Get in the Groove and Melt Away Stress in the "Buckeye State."

Tara Dodrill
Feel the stress melt away while toning muscles and dancing to the beat. The top 5 drum circles in Ohio attract both young and old alike. Put on some comfortable clothes, kick off your shoes and gather with the free spirited performers that drum circles attract around the country.

Most event are free to attend, and do not require commercial drum sets or a high level of skill to participate. Drums come in all shapes and sizes, with many of the instruments often seen at circles made by the performers themselves. Bamboo and stretched canvas bongo drums, crudely crafted tambourines and plastic shakers filled with uncooked beans are not a rare sight at drum circles.

All that is required to join the fun is a moderate sense of rhythm and common courtesy. Newcomers just follow along with drum circle veterans and tap to the same tune. No one drum or performer outshines the other. Drummers strive to create a cohesive singular sound to welcome either the dawning of a new day or the celebrating the setting sun.

The primal sound of beating drums beckons the crowd to join in the experience and mingle around the circle. Belly dancers, acrobats, Zumba dancers and various street performers routinely attend the musical gatherings. A free flowing sense of mutual acceptance allows even the least coordinated members of society to become involved in a drum circle.

Dates and times of community drum circles may change over time, so visit the circles website to confirm activity information before loading your two foot tall homemade bongo set into the car.
