The weather forecasts a severe Arctic snow storm, but there's still much work to be done for the ice road truckers. Because of the storm and strict schedules, five trucks head to the mine in a special convoy. The convoy gets split up though when T.J. oversleeps and everyone takes off without him. Luckily, the convoy makes it to the mines just in time. Hugh gets a replacement for Drew.
Episode 4- The Big Chill
A huge fuel tanker causes problems when it flips over on the Ingraham Trail. Many delays are caused as environmental procedures are taken to determine the effects of the fuel spillage into the Yellowknife River. Jay is placed in charge of delivering three giant water purifiers.
Episode 9- The Big Melt
As the season almost draws to a close, the ice roads are slowly melting. This means the men are racing against the clock to complete the last deliveries to the diamond mines. Alex delivers a housing unit over the fragile ice road. Jay is up against tough challenges as part of a convoy delivering supplies to the town of Deline. One of the trucks in the convoy has a fuel tank that comes loose and is cracked when it hits the ground. This forces the convoy to stop where they must clean up the spill and remove the tank from underneath the truck. Rick and Hugh have more arguments over the mechanical failures of Rick's truck. Eventually Rick decides to resign from his position.
Episode 10- The Final Run
The final episode of Season 1 is a bittersweet success. The trucking season winds down as the ice is melting. Hugh gets into an accident when he is sideswiped by another truck. A bag of ammonium nitrate he was carrying begins leaking on to the ice. With the help of ice maintenance crews, they clean the spill and Hugh returns to Yellowknife. Jay gets stuck trying to take an underground rock truck north to the Fortune mine. Hugh, trying to compete for the most loads of the season, takes one last final load with one of his other trucks. Alex also takes one more last light load up north before the roads closed for the season. T.J. reflects on a successful season for his first time on the ice roads.
Episode 6- Driving on Thin Ice
After T.J. accident an investigation is put in place to determine the details of exactly what happened and to see if T.J. should be held responsible. Jay delivers a vital 95,000-pound diamond ore scrubber to the mines. Emergency crews respond to a truck that fell through the ice.
