Top 5 Famous Leprechauns

Who's the Most Famous Leprechaun of All?

Linda StCyr
In honor of St. Patrick's Day I thought it would be fun to compile a list of the top 5 famous Leprechauns to enter into pop culture. It is unclear how St. Patrick's Day and Leprechauns became connected to each other except for the fact that both are Irish. Leprechauns were based on old Irish legends of luck fairies who were gold searching tricksters. St. Patrick was the man responsible for bringing Christianity to Ireland and converting those with pagan beliefs. However St. Patrick's Day and Leprechauns are connected it is a sure bet that on St. Patrick's Day you will see lots of green clothing, green beer and people dressed as Leprechauns.

Top 5 Famous Leprechauns

#5 on the list of the Top 5 Famous Leprechauns is Hornswoggle!

If you don't know who Hornswoggle is then you haven't watched the WWE in some time. Hornswoggle is the American professional wrestler who has a tag teamed with and managed Dave Finlay, Gold Dust, Mark Henry, Evan Bourne and currently Degeneration X (Triple H, Sean Michael, Hornswoggle).

#4 on the list of the Top 5 Famous Leprechauns is The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Leprechaun!

You can't miss him. His fists are raised, his hat is tipped and he is ready to go. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Leprechaun makes the list because he is so well known.

#3 on the list of the Top 5 Famous Leprechauns is Brian Conners of Knocknasheega, King of the Leprechauns!

King Brian can be seen in the Disney film Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Jimmy O'Dea plays King Brian opposite a young Sean Connery playing Darby O'Gill. There is lots of singing in this film. "Oh singin's no sin, and drinkin's no crime, if you have one drink only, just one at at a time."- King Brian

#2 on the list of the Top 5 Famous Leprechauns is Warwick Davis, The Leprechaun!

Warwick Davis plays The Leprechaun in 6 horror films and is probably the most feared Leprechaun of all time. These films teach you why you should never steal a Leprechauns pot of gold. The names of the films which feature Warwick Davis are Leprechaun, Leprechaun 2, Leprechaun 3, Leprechaun 4: In Space, Leprechaun in the Hood, and Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood.

#1 on the list of the Top 5 Famous Leprechauns is Lucky the Leprechaun!

He has been the Leprechaun mascot of Lucky Charms cereal since 1964. Kids know him by name and the cereal is known by households all over the world. The cereal is a mix of marshmallow shapes and toasted-oat pieces which Lucky touts as, "magically delicious!"
