Top 5 Fantasy Football Quarterback Sleepers for 2009-2010 NFL Season

From Phillip Rivers to Carson Palmer

Josh Wiley
Many fantasy football leagues were won and lost last season at the Quarterback position. Kurt Warner was the years top sleeper and the owners of him often won there league. Those owners that had Tom Brady found it difficult to recover after he went down with injury. The 2009-2010 NFL season is not too far away and I am going to give 5 sleepers to keep an eye on for the Quarterback position.

QB Sleeper #1- Phillip Rivers- San Diego Chargers

Phillip Rivers was a top five fantasy quarterback last season and many will not rank him there in 2009. He led the league with a 105.5 QB rating and threw for 34 touchdowns compared to only 11 interceptions. Fantasy Drafts will be filled with bigger names in the early rounds and Rivers might slip out of the top 5 or 6 Quarterbacks taken. If this happens grab this guy. He should be coming into his prime and will be throwing even more screen passes to the lightning rod Darren Sproles. Rivers will prove to be the top quarterback sleeper in fantasy football in 2009.

QB Sleeper #2- Trent Edwards- Buffalo Bills

Trent Edwards is not a superstar but could put up a solid season with the acquisition of Terrell Owens. Love him or hate him, Owens is a difference maker. With Owens on one side and Lee Evans on the other, Edwards should throw for at least 20 touchdowns in 2009. Edwards is a good sleeper to take in your fantasy football draft after you already have a starting quarterback in place.

QB Sleeper #3- Matt Schaub- Houston Texans

Schaub was injured some last season and that hurt his overall numbers. He has one of the top wideouts in the league in Andre Johnson and has a running game to go with it. The Texans should be an improved team ready to make a push for the playoffs in 2009 and Matt Schaub should improve as the team does. Don't hesitate tot take Matt Schaub as your low end starter in 12 team fantasy football leagues. Schaub has the ability to surprise in 2009 and ranks third on my quarterback sleeper list.

QB Sleeper #4- Mark Sanchez- New York Jets

The Jets moved up on draft day to take there future franchise quarterback in Mark Sanchez. Sanchez is going to start right away and has all of the tools to be this years version of Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. The Jets have sold receivers to throw the ball to and Sanchez will learn quickly. Do not draft Sanchez as your starting quarterback but take him in your fantasy football draft as a sleeper backup.

QB Sleeper #5- Carson Palmer Cincinnati Bengals

Remember a few years ago when Palmer was mentioned in the same breath as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning? Palmer fought through injuries last season and finally shut it down. He is rehabilitated now and ready to be the 2009 NFL comeback player of the year. This guy still has a cannon for an arm and should be a solid sleeper for your 2009 fantasy football draft.

Good luck in your draft. Take a chance at a sleeper and you could be rewarded with a Warner type performance that could propel you to the title.
